Neymar’s ongoing struggle to fully return to top-level football has been a long and frustrating journey. Although he has made a comeback to club football after recovering from his injury, the Brazilian national team continues to wait for their star player. Brazil’s new head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, is in no rush to bring Neymar back to the national squad. Ancelotti is taking a cautious approach and wants Neymar to be completely fit before he wears the famous yellow jersey of the Seleção again. The coach believes that Neymar should only return to international football when he is at 100% of his physical condition to avoid any further setbacks.

While fans were hopeful about Neymar’s return and expecting to see signs of his old brilliance, he has instead made headlines for a rather unfortunate incident. In the 11th matchday of the Brazilian league, Neymar received a red card under bizarre circumstances. Playing for Santos, he was sent off after scoring a goal with his hand. This shocking moment happened in the 76th minute of the match against Botafogo. The red card proved costly for Santos, as they went on to lose the match 1-0.

This game was particularly important for Neymar. It marked his first appearance in the starting lineup for Santos since March. In the matches following his injury recovery, he had only come on as a substitute. The match against Botafogo was seen as a big step in his comeback. Expectations were high, and many hoped this would be the match where Neymar showed his spark again. Unfortunately, things ended on a sour note.

The trouble started late in the first half when Neymar was booked for a foul during added time. This earned him his first yellow card of the match. In the second half, in the 76th minute, Neymar received his second yellow, which resulted in a red card. The incident occurred after a cross from Gonzalo Escobar into the penalty area. Botafogo’s goalkeeper, Victor, blocked the ball, but the rebound landed near Neymar, who then used his hand to push the ball into the net. This deliberate handball was spotted immediately by the referee, and Neymar was shown his second yellow card, turning it into a red.

According to football rules, intentionally handling the ball to score a goal is a bookable offense. As Neymar had already received a yellow card earlier, the second one automatically meant a red card and an early exit from the game. Following his dismissal, Santos were reduced to ten men, and the team struggled to hold off Botafogo’s attack. Artur Guimarães scored the winning goal for Botafogo in the 86th minute, sealing Santos’ defeat.

This loss added to Santos’ growing problems in the league. With only 8 points from 11 matches, the team has now dropped into the relegation zone. In contrast, Botafogo moved up to ninth place in the league table with 15 points from 10 matches. Meanwhile, Flamengo sits comfortably at the top of the standings with 24 points from 11 matches, showing consistent performance throughout the season.

Overall, Neymar’s return to football continues to be filled with challenges. Between injuries, performance issues, and now disciplinary problems, his journey back to his best form is proving to be a difficult one. Both his club and country are watching closely, hoping for better days ahead. For now, though, Neymar must stay focused, recover his rhythm, and avoid mistakes like the one that cost his team dearly against Botafogo.
