German Minister: Putin Rejects Ceasefire, Urges Stronger Support for Ukraine

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin Rejects Ceasefire and does not want peace for Ukraine. He emphasized that ongoing diplomatic efforts remain largely “wishful thinking,” as no meaningful breakthrough has been achieved in the war.

Pistorius stressed the importance of supporting and strengthening Ukraine’s defence, saying, “Our goal is to see Ukraine enter into meaningful negotiations to achieve lasting peace, and for that, Ukraine must be strong. This is our responsibility as Europeans. This is a task of our time.”

He also called for increased European defence capabilities, noting, “NATO must become more European in order to remain transatlantic. This is what it takes for our continent to be whole, free and at peace.”

On the issue of drone defence, EU defence spokesperson Thomas Regnier described recent discussions on the EU’s proposed “drone wall” as a “productive initial exchange,” but noted that final decisions on its operation will remain with individual member states. EU official Kubilius acknowledged limited current drone detection capabilities, highlighting the need to advance the drone wall project with specialized radars and sensors.

Pistorius warned about public complacency, urging a “change of mindset” against those who prefer to ignore the conflict. He said, “It’s about explaining every day [Putin Rejects Ceasefire], supporting Ukraine, and defending our way of life.”

He concluded by highlighting the urgency for enhanced drone defence technologies, calling for faster development and procurement beyond just the drone wall concept.
