Lita, a fourth-semester college student, had a charm that was hard to miss. Petite, fair-skinned, and always smiling, she exuded warmth that made people feel at ease. She was approachable, cheerful, and well-liked by both friends and admirers. But everything changed when she joined a vacation trip with her mother’s friends.
That’s where she met Dendy—the son of her mom’s best friend. He had just graduated high school. Tall, handsome, with fair skin and a basketball player’s physique, Dendy had a gaze that made Lita’s heart skip a beat. It was as if his eyes held feelings he hadn’t yet voiced.
What Lita didn’t know was that her younger sister, Sessy, had already fallen for him. Unlike Lita, Sessy was more expressive and didn’t hide her attraction. But Lita noticed something different. Whenever Dendy looked their way, his eyes weren’t on Sessy—they were on her.
As the vacation came to an end, Dendy mustered the courage to give Lita his number. But before she could take it peacefully, Sessy caught sight of it.
“sis! What’s going on here?” Sessy snapped. “He likes me, not you!”
Lita froze. She didn’t want to argue, especially not with her sister. But Dendy sighed deeply and spoke calmly.
“Sorry, Sessy. But I like Lita, not you.”
Sessy’s face turned red with anger. She stared at Lita with fury before storming off. From that moment, cracks began to form in their family.

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
