Chapter 2: Secrets We Couldn’t Keep
They never meant to hurt anyone.
Lita and Dendy began meeting in secret. Late-night calls. Quiet texts. A stolen glance when no one was looking. For once, Lita felt seen—understood. Dendy made her feel like she mattered.
But secrets have a way of slipping out.
One night, the house phone rang. Lita rushed to pick it up.
“Den, not now,” she whispered. “Sessy might hear.”
“I just wanted to hear your voice.”
And just like that, it all unraveled.
Sessy was already on the other line. She’d picked up the phone in the living room.
“You’ve been lying to me?” her voice cracked. “You were seeing him behind my back?”
Lita’s heart sank. “Sessy, I—”
“Don’t. Just don’t.” Sessy’s voice shook. “You’re a traitor.”
The next day, the house was colder. Sessy walked past Lita like she didn’t exist. Rumors started spreading—first in whispers, then out loud.
“She stole her sister’s crush.”
“So messed up.”
Even at campus, Lita could feel the stares. The judgment. The shame.
At home, it was even worse.
“How could you do this to your sister?” her mom snapped.
“Mom, I didn’t mean—”
“You broke this family,” her father said, eyes hard. “We’re disappointed in you.”
Lita didn’t respond. What could she say? That falling in love was never the plan? That she didn’t mean to hurt anyone?
No one would listen.
