Tilak of soil and an unbreakable bond

This story Tilak of soil is an instructive story. In that small house in the village, Rahul's eyes would open with the first rays of the sun. As soon as he woke up, he would go straight to his dear friend Tony. Tony, a golden-haired dog, would always wait for Rahul near the bed. Rahul would hug Tony and stroke his soft fur. They would start the day together. Rahul would take Tony along to the fields, run along the river, and sit under the shade of trees and listen to stories. Tony would always accompany Rahul. When Rahul cried, Tony would console him by licking his tears. When Rahul laughed, Tony would join in his happiness by wagging his tail.

Rahul had to leave

Now the time had come, when Rahul had to go out of the village to study. One day, Rahul's grandmother decided to take him to the temple. Before going to the temple, Rahul hugged Tony and said, "Tony, I will miss you a lot." Tony's eyes remained fixed on Rahul's face. He understood that Rahul was going to go away from him. In the temple, the priest applied a tilak on Rahul's forehead with Ganga water. Then he applied another tilak on Rahul's forehead with soil kept in a bowl. This soil tilak was very special for the people of the village. It was believed that this soil contains the blessings of the gods. Rahul liked this tilak very much. He felt as if he had the blessings of the gods on his forehead.

True love

Rahul returned home and went straight to Tony. He showed his tilak to Tony. Tony licked Rahul's face and wagged his tail. Rahul told Tony that, “Like every child in the village, now he too will have to go out and study in a good school. Only then will he be able to become a successful person. Then, a lot of money will come in handy and with that money Rahul and Tony will live a happy life. But, Rahul was a child and he did not know that Tony was not that old. Tony was also very happy to see Rahul happy. He was rejoicing in Rahul's happiness by wagging his tail. This is really what is called true love. When the person you love is happy, you become happy with that.

Tony is no more

Then one day morning, Rahul left the village to study in a far away city. Many years passed. But, he never forgot Tony. Every vacation he would come to the village and play with Tony. One day, Rahul came to know that Tony was sick. He immediately went to the village. Tony had become very weak. Rahul picked Tony up in his arms and hugged him to his chest. Tony's eyes slowly closed. Rahul was heartbroken. He buried Tony under a beautiful tree. At night, Rahul sat under that tree and remembered Tony. The moon was shining in the sky and the stars were twinkling. Rahul thought that Tony is now shining as a star in the sky and he is always with him.

Duty of friendship

Years later, Rahul became a successful man. He built a big house in the city. He never missed the village and Tony. One day, he had a dream. In the dream, Tony came to him and said, “Rahul, have you forgotten me?” Rahul woke up and started crying. He realized how much he had changed. Rahul decided that he would go back to the village and build an animal hospital in Tony’s name, so that all the animals get good care. He thought that this would be the best gift dedicated to Tony. When the hospital was built, one day an abandoned puppy came there. Who was sick. He used to sit near Rahul’s feet just like Tony used to sit. After a few days, Rahul adopted him and named him Tony.
