Glory's eyes drifted toward the window, where the sky was a deep shade of indigo, like a bruise that refused to heal. She felt a pang in her chest, a familiar ache and a burning sensation that had become a constant companion. It was as if the space between her and the world outside had grown, stretching like an elastic band that threatened to snap, leaving her in a dilemma between persistence and giving up.
She turned back to the room, her gaze falling on the figure sitting across from her. John's eyes were glued to the TV, his face a mask of indifference like it had been for the past few months . The eyes that once embodied love and empathy now showed distaste. Glory felt a surge of frustration. How could he be so calm, so detached and unbothered, when everything inside her was screaming?
The distance between them had grown over the past year, a slow and insidious creep that had left Glory feeling isolated and alone. They used to be inseparable, their love a flame that burned bright and hot under the eyes of numerous admirers . But now, it felt like they were just going through the motions, living separate lives under the same roof.
Glory's mind began to wander, drifting back to the argument they'd had a few days ago. It had started over something trivial, but had quickly escalated into a full-blown fight. The words they'd hurled at each other still lingered, a toxic residue that poisoned the air between them.
As she sat there, feeling the weight of their unspoken words, Glory realized that the space between them was more than just physical. It was emotional, a chasm that had grown so wide it seemed insurmountable.
And yet, as she looked at Ryan, she felt a spark of hope. Maybe, just maybe, they could find a way to bridge the gap between them. Maybe they could learn to communicate again, to find common ground.
But as the silence between them stretched out, Emma wondered if it was already too late.
