The Mirror That Shows Your Future
Fate isn’t always what we expect — but it’s always what we need.

When Evelyn bought the mirror, she thought it was just another antique, something to fill the empty space in her apartment. It was a beautiful piece, framed in dark oak, with a subtle, almost imperceptible crack running along its edge. The kind of imperfection that seemed to add character.
She placed it in her hallway, across from the front door. It stood there, quietly reflecting the light in her room, until one evening, when something strange happened.
As she walked past it, her reflection didn’t quite follow her. For a split second, it stayed still — staring back at her with eyes that weren’t her own.
Evelyn froze. She blinked. The reflection caught up.
At first, she brushed it off as fatigue. Maybe it was just the way the light hit the glass. But then it happened again the next night. And the next.
One evening, as she passed the mirror, her reflection didn’t just stay still — it smiled.
A strange, knowing smile. The kind of smile she would have given to someone she loved, but hadn’t yet met.
She stopped. “What are you doing?” she whispered to her reflection.
It didn’t answer. But for the first time, the reflection moved without her — the way it would if she wasn’t standing there at all.
Her reflection walked toward the mirror, as if it were stepping into another world. Evelyn felt a sharp pang in her chest, a pull she couldn’t resist. She reached out.
Before she could touch the glass, her reflection turned and looked back at her. Its eyes were different now — filled with something deeper. Something more certain.
“I’m waiting for you,” it said softly. “When you’re ready, come through.”
Over the next few days, Evelyn found herself drawn to the mirror. Each time she passed it, her reflection showed a different version of herself — versions that felt so real, so vivid, they seemed to reach out, tugging at something inside her.
One night, she saw herself walking along a beach — the sun setting behind her, her heart at peace, a man by her side. The next night, she saw herself standing in a room full of strangers, her arms open, laughing with abandon.
Each vision was a life she hadn’t yet lived, but could. A future she could choose.
She sat in front of the mirror one evening, her hand trembling as she touched the glass. She had no idea how long she had been sitting there, watching, waiting. But at that moment, she knew — the mirror wasn’t just showing her the future.
It was giving her a choice.
The next time she stepped in front of the mirror, her reflection smiled at her again. But this time, it wasn’t waiting. It stepped out, through the glass, into her world.
It was her, and yet, it wasn’t. There was something different about it — something brighter, freer, more alive.
“I’m you,” the reflection said, “but the you who decided to choose.”
Evelyn smiled, her heart swelling with understanding. She wasn’t just looking at a future anymore. She was staring into the person she was meant to become.
“I’m ready,” she whispered.
And as her reflection took her hand, they walked together — into the future, into the life she had always dreamed of.
Sometimes, the future isn’t a destination. It’s a choice we have to make — and it’s waiting for us to walk through the mirror.
