The Mirror That Dreamed of Being Human

It waited centuries for someone to look too long.

By GoldenSpeechPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

In a Parisian antique shop stood a massive mirror said to have belonged to Marie Antoinette. Its surface shimmered like still water, always slightly too deep.

The owner, Madame Fournier, told buyers that the mirror dreamed. It showed reflections not of who you were — but who it wanted you to be. Those who gazed for more than a minute claimed to see themselves moving after they did.

A collector bought it in 1910. Weeks later, he was found dead, his reflection still standing upright in the glass, breathing slowly.

The mirror was sealed away, but rumor says it resurfaced after the war. People who visit the shop today say it sometimes fogs up on its own, as if exhaling.
