The Candle That Remembered Faces
It never went out — it only forgot to burn.

A monastery deep in the Carpathian Mountains held a single candle said to contain the memories of the dead.
When lit, its flame would flicker into shapes — the faces of those who once lived there.
A young monk, desperate to see his mother again, broke the sacred rule and lit it during a storm. Her face appeared, smiling. But then others came — hundreds, thousands — all whispering names he didn’t know.
The candle grew taller, not shorter, wax stretching upward like bone. When dawn came, the abbey was empty. Only the candle remained, still burning — its wax carved with the names of every missing soul.
Today, travelers who pass the ruins claim to see a faint glow at night. Some swear they hear voices saying, “Don’t blow it out. It still remembers you.”
