The House That Aged Backward

Each night it grew younger. Each morning, the guests disappeared.

In rural Bavaria, a travel journalist found a pension that seemed too perfect — pristine floors, freshly painted walls, the smell of spring in the air. The owner, a quiet elderly woman, told her, “It’s an old house, but it never lets itself decay.”

The journalist stayed three nights. On the first, she noticed the wallpaper looked new. On the second, the furniture seemed modern. By the third, there was no electricity, and the woman appeared thirty years younger.

When police investigated weeks later, they found a 19th-century foundation buried beneath an empty field. In the basement ruins lay dozens of keys — and a camera with a photo of the journalist at the window of a house that no longer existed.
