The Entity Slayer

Chapter 2 Dreams Suck

By Anna Nikki Douglas, Ph.DPublished 2 years ago 7 min read

The two melanated small-statured women walked into the bar, and as heads turned, they looked ahead. The now, twenty-year-old Roya’Tea (Roya) Reign, walked up to the bartender and ordered a Pink Panties Martini, a code word for Elf’s Blood a tonic used for speaking to the Ancestors. Tika stood beside Roya with her back to the bar as she kept her eyes out for the shapeshifters, The Legion, that had been tailing them for the past five miles. “Ma, you sure this is going to help” Roya inquired as the bartender fixed the tonic. Tika knew there was nothing she could say to Roya right now that would calm her, so she did what she knew best, and just smiled.

Roya scoffed in annoyance at how calm her mother could be at a moment like this. But Roya always seemed to forget that her mother has been in much worse situations than this. “Sometimes, ma, I just wish you showed a little fear…so I can know you are still human,” Roya expressed to Tika. The reality is that Tika vowed to never show fear again after encountering a rogue Djinn who used people’s fears to suck their life forces. It was the day she almost lost Roya.

The bartender brought Roya the tonic, she paid and walked off with Tika. They found a little table in the far back right of the bar next to the pool tables. The risk of performing a spell among mortals is punishable by the Auras, but Tika knew the risks. “Look sweetie,” Tika begins to speak to Roya, “…you know this is the only way to save that girl, right?” Tika inquired as she reached for Roya’s left hand. “Yes, ma, I know…I just wish…” before she could finish Roya experienced a grappling trance. With her eyes glazed over, Roya envisioned a tall dark figure grabbing Emery, the little Native American girl with whom she was trying to protect. Just as quickly as the vision came, it was gone. Roya looked at Tika and said, “we are almost out of time.”

With much more motivation, Roya began a low chant, conjuring the Shadow Guides. Like peyote for Native American spirit guides, Elf’s Blood allows you to speak to any Ancestor. As the guides appeared to Roya, a commotion at the entrance of the bar draws Tika’s attention. Fearful that the shapeshifter that has followed them has entered the bar, jeopardizing their existence, Tika cast a protection spell disarming any entity from attacking. This last-ditch ploy allowed Roya to step into the Shadow realm.

“I come Ancestors humbly and willingly to ask for your guidance,” Roya announces as she kneels to three giant figures. Unable to make out the figures, Roya continued to bow until a low brooding voice spoke, “Rise my child, we know what you seek.” Roya rose to her feet and pleaded for the power to banish the Dream Sucker, Lugo, who seem to have their clutches on Emery, the next Native American Aura. “We know my child…but we must not interfere with the grand design,” one angelic voice spoke up. Roya began to become enraged, “the more Auras killed the more the balance is disrupted great Ancestor,” Roya asserted. She continued to plead for the power or spell that could banish Lugo. Before she knew it, Roya was sent back to the realm of the living without the power source to defeat Lugo.

When Roya regained conscientiousness, she was laying in the backseat of Tika’s 1967 Chevy Impala. Unsure what were their next steps, Roya sits up slowly, clenching her head. Tika sensed Roya has awakened, and spoke softly, “ Hey sweetie, I see you decided to return to the world of the living.” Roya was so frustrated, and still no closer to finding a way to stop the imminent threat towards Emery.

The Dream Suckers are an ancient evil that stalks the dreams of future Auras; slowly killing them within their dreams. Lugo is said to be the worst of his kind. He is said to possess the ability to kill even the strongest—willed in just two days—this is Emery’s Day two.

Roya and Tika were notified about the Dream Suckers’ return from their friend Clayton Blackfoot. Clayton is a spirit guide in human form, who guides all young Auras in taming their powers.

“Ma, how are you always so chipper after I seemingly get my arse kicked?” Roya inquired. Tika began to smirk, and replied, “well kiddo better you than my old ARSE,” they both began to laugh. Tika sensed Roya’s fear and sped up to return home.

Remy came to the aid of his sister, Roya, and Tika unloaded the trunk. They arrived at Tika’s treehouse and underground lab. Since Kofi’s death years ago, Tika tried to live an ordinary life; but the resurrection of Lugo has signified that times may be coming to an end for humanity.

Remy was ecstatic to share with Tika and Roya what he has learned about Lugo and how a simple Tongan orchid consumed during a Mercy ritual can banish Lugo to the pits of Gaia.

Tika stood by the side sliding glass door, listening to Remy enlighten Roya and herself about Lugo. Who knew a kid born of a super powerful mother and a mortal man would create such an intelligent mind? As Remy’s talking seemed to fade into Tika’s background, she remembered the day she met Ricardo Blade, the kids know him as Blade.

Tika was working on a museum exhibit on the lost tribes of Peru when Blade walked in with a rare emerald stone head with one eye socket. Tika saw this tall tanned brown hair green eyed dashing young lad before she realized what he was holding. Astonished by this ancient “cyclops emerald,” Blade approached and said, “you are Dr. Tika…” before he could finish his introductions, five-year-old Roya Reign came busting in between them pretending to be a warrior princess from the Adobo tribe.

Caught off guard, Tika spoke up, “my apologies, kids truly are unpredictable,” and she extended her hand to Blade. “Dr. Tika, I heard that you would have some knowledge about this relic?” Blade inquired while engaging in a handshake. It was from that moment on that Blade and Tika became inseparable.

Blade and Tika spent years together before Remy was born, boy genius, as Roya calls him. Tika and Blade called him "their miracle child.” Tika suddenly realized that Remy and Roya were calling her. “So, what do you think about what I said mama,” Remy asked with his big green eyes like his father.

Unsure of what Remy had even proposed, Tika responded with a simple, “whatever Roya feels is best, I support.” Roya felt proud that her mother was allowing her to take lead on a case as big as this. So Roya sprang into action with extracting the secrets of the Tongan Orchid, as Remy wrote the spell.

Once the spell was completed, Roya looked at her mother and Remy, smiled and said, “Bottoms up! Lugo, we are coming for you!” Roya chugged the elixir and began chanting the spell. As sure as the sun rises, Roya began to channel the ancient powers of the Tongans, her eyes changing to a fire red, as her hands began to glow powder blue. After a few seconds, Roya stood up and said let’s go save Emery.

Remy along with Tika piloted a small single-engine plane 50 miles away to Kennesaw Kentucky where Emery was hiding out. By the time Roya, Remy, and Tika arrived, Lugo was already there invading Emery’s mind. The ten-year-old became bewitched by Lugo’s spell that she was electrifying the guardians sent to protect her.

Tika looked at Roya with such pride, that she needed not to say a thing, Roya knew how to start the ritual and her mama, The Entity Slayer would finish. Roya jumped down and began a spell to control Emery, while she enters her mind to stop Lugo. Tika began her chant in Sanskrit, “I am power, I am light, Ancient ancestors guide my sight.” Tika repeated this as Roya entered Emery’s mind. She was sent to what looks like an abandoned circus. Emery was seen cowering by the empty tiger’s den. Roya approached her to console Emery as she whimpered. “Roya you came for me!” Emery screamed with tears running down her face. “Of course kid, told you I would always protect you,” Roya replied while embracing the child.

Lugo found them and began to mock Roya. Roya stood in a defensive stance placing herself in front of Emery. “Lugo your days end today, son” Roya said while smirking and forming the ancient sigil of containment in the air. She stepped back and whispered, “Ma, now!”

Outside Tika continued her Entity Slayer chant in Sanskrit; electricity formed in her hands as she raised her right fist high in the air. And with the force of two atomic bombs, Tika drove her fist into the earth; Roya continued chanting as root appendages pulled Lugo into the earth. The spell had been completed, and Lugo was banished. Emery stood up, wiping tears from her eyes, “thank you Roya!”

Ayla Little Rabbit appeared from a thin white veil that opened in front of them. “Emery, come with me child, we will teach you the ways of the Auras,” Ayla continued as she extended her hand to Emery. Emery began to go to Ayla when she stopped turned to Tika and said, “Great warrior queen Tika, you are our only hope.” She then turned and grabbed Ayla’s hand, and into the veil they disappeared.
