The Dragon Bride: The Forgotten Princess Who Inspired Mulan

History turned her into a warrior. The truth is far darker.

In 4th-century China, records from the Wei dynasty mention a woman soldier named Hua Ping, whose body was found half-charred after a mysterious mountain fire. Witnesses claimed she “rode a serpent of smoke” into battle.

Her sword was later examined by monks and found fused to her bones, as if melted into her arm. The emperor declared her a deity of protection — but her family refused to worship her. They said the fire wasn’t from battle, but from within her.

Every spring, the mountain still glows faintly red at night. Local legend says it’s her spirit forging armor from ash. The villagers call her Long Zhi Xin — “The Heart of the Dragon.”
