Dear Diary,

It has already been a week since I came to Hogwarts and I have made so many new friends. Well, that is not entirely true. I have a friend named John who I met on the first day. Then I became friends with a pure-blood Gryffindor named Maddie. Yes, I have permission from dad to be friends with her. Remember when I told you about Kendreth Malfoy. Now, I am hanging out with her and her friends without my father’s permission. He doesn’t like the Malfoy family at all. She seems nice. So what if I hang out with the one pure-blood family my father doesn’t like? What could go wrong?

At least that is what I told myself, but it turns out she isn’t very nice to muggle-borns, just like my dad. Kendreth and her friends actually torture people with the torture curse! How horrible is that! Well, as long as she doesn’t make me torture anybody we can still hang out. Don’t worry I hang out with John, Maddie, and Helena more than I hang out with Kendreth and her crew. I think of it as balancing myself between good and bad.

Speaking of friends Katie and Veronica have been so nice to me. They are just like I remember them, but the sad part is they are seventh years. I will only be in school with them for one year. Depressing. I am sure they will help me with anything I need. Both of them are head girls of their house, so I have to go to them with my problems. Plus Veronica is John’s older sister. I don’t know if that gives me any advantages. It hasn’t so far.

I have been learning a lot about John these few days, and it turns out we have a lot in common. His family is devoted to Slytherin, but he doesn’t agree with hurting muggles and muggle-borns, just like me. I feel more connected to him now. Now, I know why his sister would make fun of muggle-borns. John told me that he feels like a stranger in his own family. I wish I could tell him the truth about me, but I will have to get permission from my dad which could take a while. Until then the only people who know are my Godparents, Helena, Jacob, and Baron and I know they won’t tell anyone.

My Godparents have been helping me through this transition. I have gotten away with sneaking into Ravenclaw common room to see Helena. Godric has also told me about secret passageways around the school. Sometimes I sneak into my dad’s old office to hide from people who don’t like me. To be fair, I go into all of their offices, but usually when they aren’t around. When you have a master key to every room in the castle you tend to wander off sometimes. Sometimes nobody knows where I am for hours at a time. I started bringing John with me. You can’t blame me. Everyone needs time to themselves, but it is always nice to be with friends.

I just realized that maybe I share too much with John, but he is my best friend. Helena is like a sister to me. She will always be above anyone who comes into my life. John is just the best friend anyone could have asked for, and I wish I could tell him everything. I know I already established this earlier, but I really am thinking of writing my dad for permission. Why wouldn’t he say yes? John is a pure-blood Slytherin and he isn’t a Malfoy. I might never tell Maddie. It was a stretch if she could even become my friend. Sometimes parents become less strict as their child grows up. That will never be my parents. My dad has treated me the same way since I was five. There is no pleasing him. He is impossible.

I know this is a shorter entry, but I have been busy with school and my friends. There is a lot more to talk about, but I hear John coming. I will write again tomorrow. I promise. Maybe later. I hope that the next time I write that I will have an answer from my dad.

Sincerely,

Lily Slytherin

Lily’s letter to her father.

Dear Uncle,

There is so much I would like to tell you so many things, but that is not why I am writing to you. I will try to keep this as short as possible. We both know I can ramble on about the same subject for hours at a time. In regards to your last letter yes I am still inventing, no one has bothered me, and yes my godparents have been helping me with everything. I think it is time to ask you my question. Can I tell John my secret?

Before you start writing a letter saying no, please read the reasons why you should say yes.

Reason #1: John is a pure-blood. I know how much you love and trust anybody with a pure-blood status. Except for the Malfoys.

Reason #2: John’s family worships you. I know how you love being reminded about how awesome you are, and he told me himself how his family thinks you are the best wizard alive. They even have a snake named Salazar.

Reason #3: john is a Slytherin. I know that you only like people in Slytherin, and is one of the best Slytherins. You can’t argue with this one.

Reason #4: John is trustworthy. I know that is very important for you. He is the most trustworthy guy I have ever known. I would trust him with my life. I have already shown him the secret passageways in the castle.

Please, Uncle. He keeps asking why I am so close to the teachers. He is getting very curious about why they give me gifts. The cover isn’t working on him, which is the reason I am writing this. Please say yes or I will just die. I am begging you. What is one more person?

Send this letter back too so I can show myself that I actually wrote this to you.

Your niece,

Lily
