The Author Who Wrote the End of the World
And the world agreed to end on schedule.

Reclusive novelist Henry Vale announced his final book, The Last Midnight, in 2005. He claimed it would be “the end of everything.” Critics assumed he meant his career.
When the book finally released, it described the exact moment of global silence — birds frozen mid-flight, clocks stopping, people vanishing mid-sentence. It ended with a single line:
“You are reading this at the end.”
Readers online reported feeling faint, hearing static, seeing clocks flicker to 00:00.
Vale disappeared the day of publication. His home was empty, except for a typewriter still typing on its own. The last page read:
“There’s still one reader left.”
