The bell later rang for breakfast and they headed for the cafeteria. For breakfast they had hot cheese grits with a banana and a carton of milk. Since there was not much time left, Jake quickly ate the grits which were burning his mouth. But he was glad that Dylan was not in any of his classes.
His first class was math and he found it difficult as everyone else. He did not find most of his classmates pleasant to be around. He nearly fell asleep in class but was woken up by their voices and most of them were arguing and swearing at each other. After math class was over, he met up with Julian in the hallway as they went to science class together. Knowing Dylan since middle school, Jake saw him being hostile to many of their classmates. One of them is Nicole franklin. During this time, she felt she had no one to turn to, except Christina Jordan, her friend since second grade.
Then came lunchtime and Jake was looking at probably the most unhealthy looking food ever. He saw Nicole sitting at a table across from him. Dylan purposely bumped another student, causing his lunch to fall onto the floor. The other student was angry and shoved Dylan hard. Many of the students stood on tables and ran closely to the fight that broke out. But security guards came into the cafeteria and broke the fight up. They brought Dylan into the principal's office. Later that day, it was time to go home. Jake and Julian sat in the same seat earlier in the morning. Jake was doing his homework on the bus as Julian sat next to him, having the aisle seat. The bus had arrived at the brothers’ house. After his afternoon snack, Jake fell into a quick nap until dinnertime. While eating dinner with Julian and their mother, she gave them some unexpected news.
“Your sister is coming back home on friday.” That was good news to him. He had not seen Alice ever since she moved out three years before. She had lived with a close relative in the city. Their mother told them that Alice would be moving back in and will be at their graduation which was several months. By the time Friday had hit, Jake was ready for the weekend and his sister to arrive. At school, he had completed his work early hoping for the perfect weekend. Well, that was what he thought at first. Before it was time to go home, he saw Dylan approaching and attacking one of Jake's classmates. So he stepped in to get Dylan to back off.
Once everyone had entered the bus, Jake felt something was not right as he sat in the seat by the aisle. He felt wrapped paper being thrown at him. He looked the other direction and saw that it was Dylan throwing them. Jake got up from his seat with Julian following him and approached Dylan, who had gotten up from his seat.
All Jake wanted was to have a good weekend. Then Dylan punched him, causing him and Julian to punch him too. After the fight between them, a couple of Dylan's friends jumped in the fight but Julian had fought them off. While he was still fighting with Dylan, Jake fell on the floor. There Dylan kept on punching Jake, causing his nose to bleed and a few scars on his face. Jake managed to punch Dylan in the stomach twice, making him fall. The fighting had ended quickly when the bus driver entered the bus. He was using the bathroom in the school and so was the bus monitor. All of the busmates acted like nothing had happened.
