Memoir
A Story About An ARIES
Aries: The Shepherd I was constantly confused. Fighting myself every step of the way, it was exhausting. After spending so much time being wrapped up in what the others around me wanted that I got caught up in, big time too, feels like I’ve lost almost a decade of my life. My daughter’s life. I’ve battled so many obstical's for this lifetime that if I was a fucking cat I’d be crowned by the pharaohs for being the most infamous of felines. “Always beating the odds on this one,” they’d say some shit like that, definitely. If you’d ask anyone that knew the old me, they’d probably tell you they're glad I’m not dead yet. You could just roll with the religious saying as most people do, “God puts his strongest soldiers through the toughest battles,” sometimes when you're that strongest soldier alone, you tend to forget that phrase. I know very few that could’ve lived the life I’ve lived and be better than me now, with the same or better accomplishments too.

Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall
I love you. I love you for who you are when we're alone together. The way your eyes squint and twinkle when you're smiling. I see the wrinkles that form around the corner of your eyes when you laugh, a sign of your gaining wisdom as you age. I notice how you're conscious about the excessive acne on your face, yet I realise the confidence you possess to carry them around without seeing the slightest need to cover them up with make-up. I don't know many who would flaunt flaws out that well.

We traveled throughout Germany for the new years, and I saw the beauty of the country. Though the journey was full of wonderful experiences, I began to see the cracks in the foundation of our relationship. After a few short weeks, constant fights and incompatibilities I decided it was better to go our separate ways.

In Memoriam
Dear Uncle Kent - I wish I had been able to see you and discuss my appreciation for you before you passed, but it didn't happen. I intended for things to go differently within the family - I guess we all fall victim to our intentions. So here I am, regardless of my intention, addressing this letter to you, in honor of our relationship, sadly, after your death. It seems ironic that it is commonplace to speak of the wonderful attributes a person carried with them throughout life, only to be noted after their death. Why is that? Why do we withhold the sharing of our love until after death, when the impacts of those truths upon the deceased are of no value to them anymore?

Fifteen
I was only fifteen. I still had braces on my teeth and frizzy hair. My refuge was a night with my friends; talking, laughing, playing the role of normal. My friend, Tony, was at the helm of this adventurous night, and pulled into my driveway to drop me off.
