Just then two men burst into the room and grabbed the girls. “Sashi!” Ize cried fighting to get loose. “Ize!” Sashi cried fighting to get to the only sense of family she had left. The girls were put in separate cells but close enough for them to hear each other. Sashi could hear Ize crying out loud. “Ize, Kulungile; YA zdes'. Ukhuselekile!” Sashi said, trying to reassure her. “Sa-Sashi?” Ize said through sobs “Ingaba ty?” “Da. Ndim. Vy udarilis’?” Sashi whispered. “Hayi: Ty?” Ize replied in the whisper.

Descent: Part Six. Content Warning.
The discarded cane that I still held was so heavy as I stared at the fires that ringed the room. Around me, the other Saint Martha’s students muttered to each other, questioning where exactly they were and what all this had to do with the assignments. A few even asked what the assignments were, causing a ripple of quiet, near-panicked questions as they tried to figure out what we were even doing in the temple.

Thoughts of a Little Lady
As I matured into womanhood at the age of thirteen, the prospect of attending yet another tea party hosted by Lady Peony filled me with a sense of resignation. My aversion to such gatherings was no secret; the idle chatter of women preoccupied with trivialities held little appeal for me. Yet, duty compelled me to attend, driven by my mother's earnest desire to see me integrated into our small community of 1,400 souls.

BARE HUNTER
After the general left, I brewed a pot of strong coffee, preparing to battle with the graveyard in my mind. Sipping the hot brew, I gingerly peeled back the cover of my war crimes folder. Arrayed on top of the paperwork were photographs taken of the children from a different angle than I had on them. They were alive and playing in the bright Afghanistan sunshine. From my sniper’s nest, I hadn’t been able to focus in on their little faces. They were simply small figures in brightly colored clothing. The dimples, the happy eyes, and the toothy smiles reminded me of Timmy, and it rattled me to the core.

The Interview
Lucas stood in the doorway to his room. Analyzing the contents of his suitcase. Do I have everything I need, he nervously thought to himself as he fumbled with the zipper and hauled the suitcase down the hallway and out to the truck. My keys, where are my keys? Frantically, he ran back into the house and into the dining room. Ahh there they are lying on the table exactly where he had left them right next to the airline tickets. Damn, where is my head? Ok all set. Let’s go he mumbled. I’m gonna be late.

BARE HUNTER
When I got home, I tried to think of how the Thorazine had gotten into my system. Was Greg spiking my coffee at work? When my place was broken into the other night, did they change pills? No. I would have noticed a differently shaped pill. I couldn’t figure it out—until I opened the fridge and pulled out the new carton of OJ. It had been opened while I was in the hospital. I always screwed the tops on bottles and jars harder than they had to be. The top was just barely tightened. Someone had been spiking my OJ with Thorazine. Why? If they were after me and in my apartment, why not just poison me and get it over with?
