The Living Arc Angels Part 2. Content Warning.
(TYLER’S POINT OF VIEW) In the alley behind the Italian restaurant a white light appeared in swirling circles. Out of it stepped the four living arc angels. I wasn’t sure what that meant, but that was what Thomas had called us. We were once again back on earth. We stood together a moment in silence. Then the silence was broken as Eric yelled, “Whoa! Guess what?” Our attention quickly turned to him with interest not knowing what could have caused such an outburst. He looked back at us a moment and then with obvious embarrassment said, “I’m hungry. I just never thought I’d be hungry again.” A roaring laughter filled the alley. “Well, I would love to taste food again. After all, it’s been 3 years since the last time I ate.” I didn’t wait for anyone else to respond. I held tight to Andrea’s hand and started toward the end of the alley. Eric and Christine quickly followed. Andrea jokingly said, “Maybe that’s why they brought us back behind an Italian restaurant.” Once again we all shared in much needed laughter as we rounded the corner and headed toward the side door. Then after several more steps we were walking through the door, stopping just behind the register and waiting to be seated. Promptly, a waitress came up and asks us where we would like to sit. Christine said, “it doesn’t matter… we’re just glad to be here.” The waitress looked a little baffled by the reply but still grabbed a few menus and then headed off to show us to a seat. Eagerly we followed her toward the front of the restaurant. Finally the waitress stopped in front of a table that rested against the windows that made up the front wall. From here you could see the cars moving back and forth on the road that ran adjacent to the front of the establishment. To most this would have been an annoyance, however it had been a little while since any of us had seen any roads even with out any cars to be on them, so it was a new wonder to rediscover to us. So happily we sat down. Andrea slid into the booth on the left side and I slid in after her, and Christine slid into the booth on the right side followed by Eric.

Hadji 1974
1st court appearance Hadji 1974 Chapter 12 Nearly everyone in the jail gathered in the courtyard for the volleyball match after lunch. The lines previously just drawn in the dirt were now amplified with white lime. A small step ladder was in place next to the net, and a referee stood atop it. A couple of line judges, recruited from other teams, were in place to make out of bounds calls on the side and back lines. It was decided that the match would be decided in a best of five format, instead of a single game, and a coin flip was used to see which side of the net each team would begin from. The teams would switch sides after one reached thirteen points, so that each would be subject to the same sun and wind conditions. In addition to the normal guards patrolling the catwalks, the warden and several of his aides were watching from his balcony. The referee climbed onto his perch, motioned the ready sign to each team, and brought his arm forward while blowing his whistle, to start the match. After a short volley to win serve, Joe racked off ten straight points with a variety of spinning serves, strategically placed near the out-of-bounds lines. It was the beginning of a volleyball clinic that we put on for them, including crisp passes to set up our big men for thunderous dunks and well-placed dinks. When it was my turn to serve, I sent the ball a mile in the air and watched as the Turks fought with each other for the return. On the front line, I would time my leap to intercept the ball as it crossed the net and slam it to the ground on the other side for a quick turnover. With the games well in hand, we allowed the Turks to get into double digits in all three games. We practiced plays and went for the spectacular slam or diving save to the roars of the crowd. The referee was experienced and very animated with his calls and play by play descriptions. With five points remaining in the third game, Joe unleashed his jump serve and ended the match without another return serve. We crossed the net and hugged and shook hands with our opponents, thanking them for a good game. As we headed back to retrieve our towels and other belongings, you could see money and goods exchange hands in traditional Turkish custom, for the end of a sporting event. The volleyball games became a fixture of the morning routine at the jail. Being gracious winners, we allowed the Turks to pick and choose from other teams to form super teams to “Beat the Americans”.

"The Promising but Pricey World of Maglev Trains"
Introduction: Nestled deep within a Japanese mountain pass lies one of the world's most advanced and rarest transportation technologies: a 43-kilometer-long magnetic levitation (Maglev) train track. This cutting-edge track is poised to be part of the world's first inter-city Maglev train, connecting the bustling metropolises of Tokyo and Osaka. With the mesmerizing power of superconducting magnets, these Maglev trains defy gravity, hovering just 10 centimeters above the track, all while hurtling along at a breathtaking speed of 500 kilometers per hour. What sets them apart is their unique levitation mechanism, which eliminates physical contact with the track, enabling operation in any weather condition and significantly reducing maintenance costs due to minimal friction and fewer moving parts. Despite the remarkable advantages offered by Maglev trains over traditional high-speed trains, the commercial deployment of these magnetic marvels remains limited, with only one operational high-speed Maglev line, spanning 30 kilometers, connecting Shanghai Airport to the city. The discrepancy between the promise of Maglev technology and its real-world application raises intriguing questions. Why does a technology that seems poised to revolutionize transportation face such restricted implementation? In this article, we will explore how Maglev trains work, delve into the reasons behind their constrained deployment, and investigate the economic challenges they confront.
