Still Standing

The Premise of The Story

By Jessica CoulthardPublished 5 months ago 3 min read

My story is about my life and what I have been through, but I will be telling it from the future. I like this idea for a few reasons.

It is like speaking my desired future into existence. The more time I spend speaking and thinking from the place I want to be the more likely it is that I can make it my reality.

It gives me more opportunity for creative expression because this part of the story is totally made up and I can have fun with it while the rest of the story is based on fact, as best as I can remember it.

The way I have decided to structure the story, as an interview that takes place over the 3 days in my beautiful beachfront home allows me to take the reader on a journey back to specific times in my life easily through conversation.

Because my goal is to have my book turned into a series for Netflix or another steaming platform, I have decided to write it like a screenplay. Each chapter will be like an episode, in fact I may even title each chapter like a Netflix series (S1:EP1 with a title). I don't feel like this has been done before, but because I am writing this with a specific intention, I believe that the closer I can create this as the end result the more likely it is to become real.

Yes this may all just be me having a serious case of delulu, but what if it works?

The Story begins… S1:EP1 — The Visitor

Jess (that’s me) hears a car driving up the gravel driveway of her new ocean front beach house. The house she has dreamed of for years. The house she had drawn in her journal and seen in her visualizations over and over. The house she named Tree Fort Resort because her dream was to own a bed and breakfast with a retreat center on the property, close but no too close to her own home.

Each suite is like a tree fort, high in the trees with a wooden walk way to get to so that there was enough privacy between them. Each room overlooks the ocean, with a mini kitchen, full soaker tub, with an array of sleeping options and the best part is the full wrap around deck for taking in the magnificent view of the ocean and islands across from the resort.

Below the tree fort suites is the incredible retreat centre that she rents out for women to come and enjoy. The room is designed to be an open concept for yoga classes, as well as dividers that can be pulled into place to create individual spaces for more intimate gatherings and healing sessions. But the best part is the large glass wall that faces the ocean that can be completely opened in the summer to enjoy the view without anything impeding the view.

Knock, knock….

Oh shit!

I don’t think I'm ready for this. What was I thinking? Who do I think I am? Ok Daizygirl, take a breath, you got this!

I give my shoulders a little shake as I coach myself into trying to relax and believe that I can do this. Definitely not the first time I have done this little move, might even have to start considering it my signature move.. the little shake and coaching session I give myself before anything big happens in my life.

I realize as I do this little shake move, that I have been really lucky to have a great friend that has always been like my biggest cheerleader. Whenever I need a boost of confidence he will say “ come on Daizygirl, you got this”. I can hear his voice in my head as I call myself Daizygirl and picture the image he always sends me of Jim Carey in the cheerleader outfit from a skit on SNL.

YES, I got this!
