Preserving the past is protecting our future
History
In times, where our history is being tarnished by fascists. When our history is distorted by current political climate and regime – and when our fellow countrymen cannot recognize our history anymore – then it is time to make a difference and look back on our past.
History classes are frequently ignored, derided as "boring," and only emphasize memorization of dates. But more important than these notions, a solid grassroots program for teaching history needs to be put in place to ensure that there is high-quality education throughout our nation.
Our education system should be nationalist, scientific, and mass-oriented. Last May 9, we casted our votes in the hopes that they would count in the battle against Bongbong Marcos, the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. but still millions of Filipinos still fell for their trap
despite the fact that it has been historically established that their family perpetrated a horrendous crime against our humanity, that they are corrupt, fascists, and have ill-gotten wealth.
One of the reason for their comeback is the way they weaponized social media platforms to misrepresent our past.
Now that they are back in power, we are experiencing inflation, fuel hike, and worst performance
in our economy in the recent years. A mirror of what our country has experienced during the martial law which they brand as the darkest part of our history due to certain reasons.
The rise of so-called vloggers has become noticeable in different arenas of online world. They
were trying so hard to create a story that were highly favorable for their bosses. Likewise, they are fueled by tax payer’s money and can be considered as the number one threat for our rich and vibrant history.
Now that we have this subject in tertiary education, it is very refreshing to hear our country’s past. Hence, it is an affirmation that we should fight for a better nation. We are a witness in flesh and certainly we will become part of our country’s own history.
We can always stand for our opinion but we cannot neglect our own truths. Like history, we
cannot dismiss that this event has happened just because we don’t experienced it.
