As the months rolled on after the winter dance, Amanda found herself immersed in the rhythm of her new life. She moved to a different city for college, eager to embrace the opportunities ahead. But despite the excitement of new friendships and experiences, a nagging feeling began to tug at her heart.

It was a strange sensation, one that crept in during quiet moments—when she was studying in her dorm or hanging out with her new friends. She would find herself lost in thought, remembering the sound of Shaun’s laughter and the way he looked at her with those warm, thoughtful eyes.

“What’s wrong?” her roommate Mia asked one evening as they were curled up on the couch, watching a movie.

“I don’t know,” Amanda replied, sighing. “I keep thinking about this guy I knew in high school. I can’t shake it off. I just... I miss him.”

Mia raised an eyebrow. “You’re talking about Shaun, right? The one from Kingsley?”

“Yeah,” Amanda admitted, her heart tightening. “It’s been over two years since we graduated, and I don’t understand why I can’t let go of those feelings.”

Determined to find closure, Amanda decided to search for Shaun on social media. She hoped to see what he was up to, to see if he was happy. But her efforts were met with frustration. No matter how she searched, she couldn’t find him.

Meanwhile, Shaun was navigating his own life after graduation. He had enrolled in a local community college and was focused on his art. He had also started dating Sophie, a vibrant girl he met in one of his classes. Sophie was supportive and fun, always encouraging Shaun to pursue his dreams. They quickly became inseparable, and he found comfort in their shared moments.

But even as he built a life with Sophie, there were times he caught himself reminiscing about Amanda. He would see couples laughing and teasing each other, and it would remind him of the fleeting connection he once had. Yet he brushed those feelings aside, convincing himself that moving on was part of growing up.

As Amanda settled into her new life, she found it hard to shake off the sense of longing for Shaun. Each day, the feeling grew stronger, like a whisper in her mind that wouldn’t quiet down.

One evening, overwhelmed by a wave of nostalgia, she pulled out her sketchbook and began to draw. She found herself recreating moments they had shared—the park bench, the oak tree, the warmth of his smile. Each stroke of her pencil seemed to bring her closer to understanding the depth of her feelings.

“Hey, what are you working on?” Mia peeked over her shoulder, her curiosity piqued.

“Just some sketches,” Amanda replied, trying to keep the emotion out of her voice.

Mia studied the drawings, recognizing the familiarity. “This is Shaun, right? You really miss him, don’t you?”

Amanda paused, her heart heavy. “Yeah, I do. I just wish I could find him… see how he’s doing.”

As time passed, Amanda made a pact with herself. She would try to reach out to Shaun one last time. Gathering her courage, she decided to use the one connection they still had: the small town of Kingsley. She started to dig into community pages and local groups, hoping to find a clue that could lead her back to him.

Meanwhile, Shaun was busy with college and his relationship with Sophie, trying to focus on the present. But every so often, a thought of Amanda would flicker in his mind, like an old song playing in the background. He would smile at the memories but quickly shake them off, reminding himself that he was happy with Sophie.

But fate had a way of intertwining paths. One day, while attending a local art fair with Sophie, Shaun overheard a conversation about an art exhibit showcasing works from Kingsley alumni. Intrigued, he leaned in closer and heard a name that made his heart skip a beat: Amanda Walker.

“Wait, Amanda Walker is participating?” he asked, unable to contain his excitement.

Sophie glanced at him, a teasing smile on her face. “Looks like you’re still thinking about her, huh?”

Shaun chuckled, shaking his head. “No, it’s just… I haven’t seen her in years.”

The exhibit day arrived, and Shaun couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves. Would she be there? What would he say? As he wandered through the gallery, his heart raced, scanning the crowd for a familiar face.

And there she was. Amanda stood across the room, surrounded by her artwork, her smile lighting up the space. Time seemed to freeze as their eyes met, and in that instant, all the feelings they had buried rushed back.

Shaun took a deep breath, ready to take a step forward, uncertain of what would come next. Would they pick up where they left off, or had too much time passed? As he approached her, he felt a renewed sense of hope.

“Hey, Amanda,” he said, his voice steady despite the whirlwind of emotions inside him.

“Shaun,” she replied, a mix of surprise and joy in her eyes. “I can’t believe it’s you.”

In that moment, both of them realized that while their lives had taken different paths, the connection they once shared had never truly faded.
