It was June 2011 and the senior class of Lincoln High School were preparing to graduate with honors. But another special event was occurring within the same time frame. It was the tenth year anniversary reunion of the class of 2001. The valedictorian for that year, Megan, had been waiting for that day since she was sent a letter about it a couple of weeks earlier. But not so many of her classmates felt the same.
“I don’t know why we even go to these things.” Megan hears a voice as she is putting on a long black dress. Entering the room is her husband Peter who is wearing a gray suit. He thought that after ten years, Lincoln High would remain the same and not be so kind to the new class graduating.
“I heard how things have changed there since we’ve been there. You know the cafeteria is serving better food now” Megan said to him.
“Makes me wish we had whatever they are serving back in freshman year. Remember the Monday surprise?” Peter replied to her.
“Augh. How can I forget? The surprise was even more of a surprise to the principal.” Megan is disgusted by the thought of the lunch she and everyone else had to eat for the entire of the school year.
“It is nice to see the old gang again,” Peter said with a smile.
“But we always see them. Although now we will see almost everybody else we had not seen in a decade." Megan says as she is putting on her earrings. She looks over the nightstand and sees the picture of her and Peter on the day of their graduation. Then she looks at the next picture which shows her, Peter, Marc, Scott, Joan and Emily at their graduation party. She goes into her drawers and reaches it for her freshman yearbook. She opens it, flips through the pages and sees a picture of her at fourteen. She points out how different she looked between freshman year and sophomore year. She had turned fifteen during the summer and her mother took her to the local salon. By the time sophomore year rolled around, many of her fellow schoolmates noticed how different she looked and all eyes were on her. Half of the cheerleading team were staring at her with contempt in their eyes.
“I’m still amazed at the fact that the food there has changed. Maybe the school has changed after all the years.” Peter says with a hint of hope. As he is putting on his red tie, he calls for his and Megan’s two children and tells them that their babysitter is on the way. After the babysitter arrives, Megan and Peter head off to Lincoln High to attend the reunion. Megan’s first thought is how different many of her senior classmates might look after ten years. Her second thought is if most of them will even show up to the place. She had figured that many of them would not want to because of how they were treated in comparison to others. That was due to Francis leading half of the football team into some things that were not good for anyone else. Megan even thought that those guys might appear too.
The couple had arrived in front of the school and found parking space there. They saw several cars parked there and others parked around the back. They also noticed the front of the school looked far more different than it did. The words of Lincoln High were redesigned and rearranged on the front.
“The wildcats are no longer the same” Megan said to himself as she and Peter exit their car to head inside the school.

High school reunions are not what we always expect them to be. Good job.
