If I Only Knew Then
When I was in my early thirties I used to love going to hear bands play, and hanging out with friends. One night my friend and I went to a club, and I met another guitarist like me. He was tall, and handsome. He really showed his love. Called me every day, and we would see each other a lot. I was in love. Eventually, I introduced my son to him. Which for me this was big, because I did not introduce my son to just anyone. We were making plans for our future. Life was great. He also took seizures like my son. So I felt like this was God's plan that we met.

One synth walked up to a learned machine. The synthetic being greeted itself to the machine. They exchanged codes. They talked for a good while. They cajoled. The bluish purple of the synth contrasted the yellow and black of the learned machine. In essence, they had become intertwined due to their makers’ craftsmanship. The next morning, before sunrise, Papa and I were quietly stepping through the muddy marsh of the Atchafalaya swamplands, carrying our fishing poles, a long-handled net, a fish basket, and a couple of aluminum pails with food for us and bait for the catfish. Papa had a hunting knife hanging from his belt. I wore one of my cousin’s red and black flannel shirts, and Papa wore his favorite green and black flannel shirt. The plaid shirts reminded me of the school uniforms at our school in California, but California seemed like a million miles away at this moment.

Hector Vergara continued his daily regimen. It was leg day. He prepared for the arduous task of squatting, pressing, and of course, before and after, stretching. Warm ups and cool downs found their way on his gym schedule. Once he finished, he gulped down an iced carrot and celery smoothie. His fitness routine permitted him the ability to stay fit and sharp despite his time constraints. It was why he got up so early in the morning in the first place. Upon showering and shaving, he donned sensible dress shoes, khakis, and a zip up sweater. He wore glasses. When his driver pulled up to his minimansion, it seemed as if Vergara had a burst of energy ready to spring forth and jump start the day. In his mind, he considered himself. As a reasonably wealthy man and head of the Average Capacity Association, he felt the singular itch that could never be scratched. His abilities afforded him the things that no one else could perform. No one in the ACA had a clue as to his acumen. All they knew was that he presented himself as a mouthpiece. He said all the speeches and integrated everything into the Association.

Salience. Content Warning.
The stranger wrapped his giant arms around Acher's face squeezing the life and fight out of him. Tossing him into the back of his station wagon he wrapped his feet together before closing the trunk door behind him. He took a moment to stand and compose himself looking around the gas station. Quiet. After a few moments of savory satisfaction of victory, he walked to the driver's side gliding into the front seat. Acher struggled in the back of the station wagon kicking against the side panels. The stranger couldn’t hold back his glee and smiled so sharp that blood trickled down the sides of his devilish smile. His tongue quivered as it licked up the small streams and his eyes rolled to the back of his head. Acher was lucky not to have to watch this moment for it was certain to not only scare him but throwing up now would most certainly seal his death. The stranger turned on the radio with gargled sounds until soft jazz bounced off the car walls.
