Arizona State of Mind
So, with no jobs, money burning a hole in our pocket, and a deep need to see a new part of the country, we packed up and started the hours-long drive to Arizona. From Texas, with all of our stops and such, it ended up being about an 18-hour journey. Not including, of course, the overnight stop that wasn't even planned by us that we were essentially peer-pressured to make by Madi's travel-bug grandmother...

Memoirs of A Vampire: A Background
Author's Note: The idea came to me while it was raining. I was on a bus, heading back to my home province after completing an undergraduate assessment exam for university. As I gazed out of the window, a vision formed in my mind—a hunter, a vampire in pursuit of their prey. Their intent was not to kill, but rather to proposition "clean" humans to become their blood donors. It was the late '90s, and the world was still grappling with the aftermath of the AIDS epidemic. For this particular, discerning vampire, locating a human with untainted blood proved to be a formidable challenge. Ultimately, they settled on a human male who was drowning his sorrows at a bar, having recently been left heartbroken by a high school sweetheart.

Weaving the Canadian Mosaic: Living the dream
Kat sensed the environment as if she was a feral beast. In the stillness she heard her heartbeat, then the leaves rustling. They sounded the drum roll for a chorus of crickets chirping. The chorus adjusted their rhythm as the echoes of an occasional car or airplane passed in the distance. The chant of nature recreated the history of the land. She was a part of nature. Play Anything You Like
As a British ex-pat of some thirty years living and working in Spain and Japan, one of the most common questions I get asked by strangers or new friends is "Where are you from?" If I answer England, that lines them up for what comes next. Sometimes I answer their question with "Why?" I know, you shouldn't answer a question with one of your own, but I have my reasons. Not all such inquiries about where I am from are conversational ice-breakers from friendly natives.
