Another drama dropped on hum tv and it's the story of a family. Jama Taqseem started on a strong note as it's written by Sarwat Nazir who is known for her progressive writing and directed by Ali Hasan who is a pro in directing family drama. The ensemble cast itself is very strong and it's lovely seeing them all together.
The drama opens with Laila, played by Mawra Hocane and Qais, played by Talha Chahour having a casual conversation, inquiring about each others lives after university. When suddenly out of the blue Laila proposes him, leaving him baffled. It was a really sweet, simple and fun moment.
The contrast between both their families is evident from the start. Qais comes from a big, loud joint family comprising of 13 members, living under the same roof with all their politics and hidden agendas. From the first episode only, one gets the feel that the dynamics among characters from this family are going to paly a huge part in shaping the story.
In Contrast, Laila comes from a small nuclear family. Her family comprises of only 3 family members - her father played by Deepak Perwani, her mother played by Tazeen Husain and Laila their only child. Since Laila is the only child and her parents are both working professionals she craves family connection, maybe that's the reason she is attracted towards Qais and his family. Her parents even the viewers can also see that if she marries into this household her life will be full of challenges except her.
Meanwhile in Qais's household, his marriage has become the centre of attention as his bhabhi wants Qais to marry her sister whereas his own sister wants him to marry her sister in law. They are shown ignorant to the fact that Qais has already chosen Laila for himself.
The second episode continues with the shaadi plot. Deepak Perwani and Tazeen Husain as Laila's parents fit perfectly in their roles. Deepak Perwani is shown hesitant with qais and his family but still agrees to meet them for the sake of his daughter's happiness.
The beauty of jama taqseem is that its not your regular saas bahu drama. It's packed with subtle, significant themes about family, love and sacrifice.
Overall the drama is an enjoyable watch. I am really looking forward to see how Laila adjusts with Qais's chaotic family and if her dream of belonging to a large family turns out to be a blessing or a burden.
