Businesswoman Chapter 90
Bravura
It took some doing, and Loreen still could not get her classic car to start. Her phone rang. She saw the caller ID and a smile spread across her face.
“Hey, girl! What’s up?” Lisa queried. “Let’s make a day of it. Let’s have a time just for ourselves. We’ve saved people billions of dollars, let’s go out and just treat ourselves.”
Loreen sighed. “I like that idea. I’m working on a muscle car right now. I could use a break.”
“Great! I’ll pick you up around one-ish?”
“That sounds fine.”
The two women rode into Wilmington with bravura. They had gotten to the front of the theater when their phones rang.
“I’ll take this,” Loreen announced. “Yes?”
“We need your help, Businesswoman. We’re here in Wilmington and request that you aid us in tax avoidance.”
“We’ll be there soon.”
Lisa’s brow furrowed.
“No need to present tickets, huh?” Lisa caught the drift. Loreen shook heer head.
“We’re about to get paid, but will we ever have time to enjoy our money?”
Lisa shook her head, too.
They arrived at the offices of Deladrones. The CEO, Don Shank shook their hands and showed them a demonstration. Loreen and Lisa applauded.
“Now, we must conduct business,” Shank mentioned.
“Of course,” Loreen agreed.
“We’ve had a few issues in the past just, forgive the phrase, ‘getting off the ground.’ What we tried in the first instance was to track every single transaction. Our books are balanced but that doesn’t mean we’re not hampered with—“
“Taxes,” Lisa chimed.
“Yes. We’ve got a team of accountants but two of them stole from us and we’re struggling to keep up with our business and our ledger balances.”
“Okay,” Loreen stated. “Clear out all of your accountants. Everyone. Then take this number I just texted you.”

There it was. He was trembling with fear at what he might find inside. The sun was beginning to set, and he didn’t see the telltale glow of candles in any of the windows — but then again, if they were smart, there wouldn’t be. And he knew without a doubt that Anne was smart. Charles also saw that the windows looked intact, and with the curtains closed he could make out that someone had screwed plywood up against them as well. Smart.
