The headaches returned. Her stomach, still upset, churned as she tried to power through the document. Lisa wanted to throw herself on the bed and find rest, but she knew she had to keep going. She had to keep up the momentum despite the aches and pains she experienced.

She tapped on the digital keyboard and watched the words appear like fresh linen spreading across a bed. The characters seemed to fall neatly into place from her mind. She had to become a machine, offering word after word of substance and delight.

In her head, she felt ringing and a pounding, in her gut, a queasiness. She, though, kept pressing forward under the power of her own free will. The choice to give up and sulk and ball up like a used tissue paper remained on the table. What she knew about giving up kept her going. One thing she could not stand remained quitting.

By giving up on a project meant to hand the keys over to failure and be driven around by her collapsed sense of doing for self. Nothing in her represented this idea. With quick strokes, she fought like a warrior slashing away or shooting out against the enemy. Finally, she got up and looked for bottles of medicine to quell her raging mind and her turbulent stomach.

As she grabbed her belly and head, she looked through her medicine cabinet once more for some relief. There was none. All of the medicine had been exhausted. The next thought was to dial a ride share service to deliver the medicine. And she did.

The car arrived in twenty-two minutes. By glancing at the directions she popped two of each of the drugs for calming her mind and her midsection. Instantly, she felt better. She worked again.

It’s a powerful portrayal of resilience, and the way she seeks relief only to get back to work shows her relentless commitment.
