Businesswoman Chapter 39

The offices of Altruistical looked well-kept. Everything was bare. He possessed a simple wooden desk that had one word across it: “SACRIFICE.”

“You know I collected a billion dollars last year? I of course gave it to my enemies' charities. That’s why I need you two.”

Loreen and Lisa looked at each other with lackadaisical glances.

“So we’re supposed to help you with your depths of self-abnegation?” Lisa asked.

Altruistical chuckled. “No, you both have skills in raising up companies. I want to scale even more billions. I feel guilty just saying it, but I’ve gotta collect more funds to give away. Did I mention I flog myself?”

“That’s your business,” Loreen pointed out. “If you wish to strike your own back until it bleeds, I will only strongly discourage you from doing that. You may have a business, but there’s no such thing as ‘compassionate capitalism.’ There’s just capitalism. That’s it. So, we will not aid you on your path to destruction.”

Altruistical smiled. “You see this desk. I just have it as a prop. I don’t need it. I use my mobile device. It means nothing to me either but I do it out of duty and drudgery.”

“That lets us know that we’re not going to be partners if you don’t change your ways. We can of course boost revenues and profits. You will have to drop the whole Auguste Comte schtick, however,” Lisa declared.

“You know that’s not going to happen….” he retorted.

“Why not?” Loreen asked.

He chuckled again. “It’s me, it's my name... I have to give of myself and not only give of myself, but until it hurts, and then give some more.”

Lisa and Loreen looked at each other again.

“The deal is off,” Loreen remarked and motioned for Lisa to leave.
