Businesswoman Chapter 329
Authorities
“Where are you?” Entrepreneur Paul asked, agitation bubbling up in his voice.
“I’m at home right now trying to gather whatever I can to salvage my business,” Lisa replied.
“Why haven’t you gone to the police yet?” Atkinson asked. Loreen motioned for him to give her the phone.
“Lisa. Now, I know this must be difficult for you whatever happened.”
“I’ll tell you what happened—we were robbed! My personal information is floating out there. I have my most sensitive items encrypted, but some of the plans for the site are still missing.”
“Go to the cops, Lis’.” Loreen’s voice had been colored with empathy, soft and firm as a luxury mattress.
“I can’t. This will be everywhere. This will reflect negatively on me. Just imagine the ironic headlines, ‘Tech CEO can’t keep her own tech secure.’ Or ‘Dating site startup just got started. Is it now stopped?”
“Don’t worry about that,” Entrepreneur Paul mentioned as Loreen put the phone on speaker.
“We’re concerned about you,” Loreen intoned.
“I know. I can clean all this up on my own.”
“Where’s Ken?” Entrepreneur Paul wondered.
“He’s here. Why?”
“I just wanted to see what he’s doing to help you.”
“Thanks.”
Loreen talked into the phone.
“Now, what happens is you go to the police. I’m sure you have footage—”
“Everything’s blurry,” Lisa retorted. “Every video just shows a shadowy figure going through my stuff.”
“Okay, we’re getting somewhere. There was just one offender.”
“Actually there were four. They just come in at different points,” she explained further.
“Let’s build on that,” Entrepreneur Paul announced, taking the phone from Loreen.
“What you ought to do is announce this to the authorities and embrace your pride. Embrace and sustain your ego and show that you’re strong enough to fight against injustice.”
“I’ll do that.”
