Lawyers and attorneys convened like a murder of ravens. By poring over documents of all the businesses Loreen ran and every penny she earned by helping other businesses had to be accounted for on this rainy afternoon.
“You know, there should be no income taxes, city, state, and federal. We’re going to assure that we will find loopholes and as many legal ways to have you keep your money,” Ashton Munn announced. He wore a gray suit with a white and blue striped tie. He looked a bit older than his thirty-five years. Standing next to his boss, though, with white on the rooftop against black skin, he appeared as a wunderkind.
With close attention and dedication to the money earned over the year, Loreen Breen hired attorneys to watch her attorneys and accountants to oversee accountants. In preparation for her taxes, she knew there would be no space for mistakes.
Loreen utilized these professionals for the past decade. She never had been audited and never missed paying her taxes. Something somewhere in her frame reminded her she did not see being a “loyal taxpayer” as a virtue. It was just a deterrent to stave off going to prison.
At this point, she walked around the large table in her offices in downtown Wilmington. She shook hands and smiled. The room sort of hummed with intellectual energy. Years of experience played out with a definite show.
“Ah!” A woman in her early forties exclaimed like a bird with a song bursting through the air.
“There seems to be a percentage off from here….” Jocelyn Maddy explained.
“Jesus,” Loreen spoke under her breath. “You’re good. You saved me $260,000,” she addressed Joceyln.
“That’s why we do what we do, ma’am.” Loreen almost didn’t accept the “ma’am” and simply, clearly just smiled.
