Loreen Breen sat up in bed. Herschel remained asleep. Figures went through her mind. She could almost see the numbers float through space. With a quick and quiet turn not to upset her husband, she slipped on her house shoes and journeyed to her desk.
The data spoke loudly. When she saw the glaring balance in her account, she nearly froze. In close proximity to overdrafting, she moved millions from one account to the other.
Memories of how she proposed to be efficient with her money gave her the ability to always be on top of her finances. Like a wizard, she conjured up enough dollars to cover her losses. As a boss, she knew she had to keep her own money matters together to inspire and hold trust in her team.
Loreen breathed. Her eyes darted around at a rapid pace as if a ping pong ball flew around the screen. It felt as if a five hundred pound weight had been removed from her neck. Relief came in waves throughout her body.
She spun around in her office chair as the sun peaked through her blinds. Then, she peered at the screen. In a few minutes the online bank would be open. The wonder of whether the funds would go through before the financial institution opened allowed anxiety to creep through her petite frame.
It was slight, however. She scrolled to the bottom of the page and tapped the submit button. A confirmation number appeared on her screen. Her face remained straight, though. Until she read the last figure in the confirmation notice, she permitted the anxiety to peel away from her like layers of a Russian doll.
She stood and wanted a cigarette. Never had she smoked, but she possessed a jones for a drag. She smirked.
