The streets seemed eerily empty. Activity had ground to a cease. Each of the small businesses around Wilmington had shut their doors as a show of support for the federal government workers.

Loreen walked around the town as if she owned it. The shutdown of the businesses in tandem with the federal employees only drove Loreen to work even smarter.

She kept a strong gait in stiletto heels and a designer shawl and trousers. Her face looked light and clear, full of optimism and truth. As she found her way to her place of business, she noted that no doorman had been placed at the entrance.

There was no receptionist near the elevators. Every possible way for her to keep pushing towards that higher ground made her continue to get out of her home office and let herself bring on new projects.

As a CEO, she contacted other executives. She engaged in a video chat.

“Paul, what the hell?”

“It’s just the contractions of having been led by the fate of business,” Entrepreneur Paul reassured.

“I saw all this on the news, but to actually have boots on the ground and see what the city looks like without the hustle and bustle…it’s just unsettling.”

“I know. I see this government thing passing over and private businesses returning to normal. What is ‘normal’ anyway?”

“I’m sure it’s something much better than this. But I don’t want to be normal. I want to be optimal, ideal,” Loreen protested.

“We’ll get there. They can shut down all they want. We have the power to be great even in the face of trying times. We’re going to rekindle the flame of industry despite the dearth of those who may give us support.” Atkinson remarked this with a bit of melancholy wrapped in confidence, too.
