It just felt right. Not just the emotion but a profound understanding and recognition of cognition. Entrepreneur Paul presented a complete changeover of the professional football team in which he owned seventy-two percent. He wore blue jeans and a crisp white unbuttoned dress shirt.
“Bad,” he told Sadie Nocco. She wore a red dress and stilettos and a ponytail hairstyle.
“Bad?” she asked. “You can’t rename a football team ‘bad.’ Just imagine if we have an off game or season. The press will have a field day.”
“Ait comes from ‘badaadinta badah’ or “saviors of the sea.”
“Somali….” she said in her office.
“Somali.”
“We’re talking about piracy now…” An eyebrow raised like a blind on her face.
“Do I need to give you the list of professional sports teams that celebrate and embrace such figures. Do I have to remind you of all the children's movies that feature and romanticise the idea?”
“No, but the name and the logo will be problematic, nonetheless,” Sadie explained.
“Why? Recording artists have absorbed the notion of ‘bad’ meaning good. Should I give you a list of ways that the term has been transformed. Sadie shot a glance at Entrepreneur Paul that said, “stop, sir.” She then spoke.
“I understand we’re going to run into trouble despite your suggested arguments.”
“Why? Is it because a man of color decides to make a name change? Is it because the name and logo go up against the Eurocentric idealism of the world?”
“I’ve got a stake in this, too, Paul. We’re going to experience rough territory. We’re going to see significant pushback on this whole situation.”
“So be it.”
“You’re completely committed to this, huh?”
Sadie said with a delicious grin. It stretched across her forty-nine-year-old face.
“I am,” Entrepreneur Paul beamed.
“Let’s do it.”
