Entrepreneur Paul walked towards the boardroom. He opened the large oak door and greeted Diego Suarez with a handshake.

“It’s been too long, Paul,” Suarez acknowledged.

“Much too long,” Atkinson acknowledged.

“Why are you doing this now?”

“I need to get eyeballs and ears on this 501 (c) (3).”

“A billion? To two of them?” his accountant asked, nearly befuddled.

“That’s right.”

“I know you’ve got it but goddamn!” Suarez exclaimed.

“It’s alright, D. These are intellectual pursuits. They give you an option and I’m seizing the choice.”

“But you don’t have to give this much.”

“Yes…I do. This is almost sectarian.” Atkinson replied.

“But two billion….”

“That’s going to boost the organizations.”

“You’re going to get a big tax cut, for sure.”

“I’m not interested in that. I mean I am, but that’s not my main deal. I wish to see these groups bloom and blossom. As think tanks, they need fertile soil to nurture even more people with ideas.”

Suarez picked up a stylus and jotted something on a tablet.

“Okay, so we do this. Do you want press?”

“I think they’ll become part of the whole situation. They’ll have press releases themselves and use deduction.”

“I still think it’s steep. I mean you have the idea to give away money. Isn’t that the height of altruism.”

Atkinson smiled and a cold laugh escaped from his lips.

“It’s the most egoistic thing I can do.”

“I’d say.”

“You don’t understand, Diego. It’s something I wish to do that benefits me. If it helps anyone else, it’s only secondary. When I sat on the boards of both groups, I knew that they would have to expand.”

Suarez nodded as if just figuring out a calculus problem.

“I see what you’re saying, now,” the accountant admitted.

Both let out air.
