Her legs stretched into six thousand dollar pumps. She wore an eight thousand LBD. Wood floors added character to her apartment above a skyscraper in Wilmington, Delaware. Portraits and landscapes dotted the walls and further colored the ideal of her ambience.

“So, you’re just going to wear that?” Her quizzical expression spoke more than her words.

“I’m comfortable in it,” Entrepreneur Paul replied, looking down at his vest, shirt, and jeans.

“I’m going to have to build your closet,” Della Virelli. Her eyes narrowed. She drew from a vaporizer.

“There’s no need for that. Just let me leave if you don’t want to go out with me,” Entrepreneur Paul started to exit.

“Wait!” Della called before he could reach the door. “We can still go.” Some worry remained in her tone but receded like a hairline. Atkinson smiled.

“Alright. Bet. I’ll let my driver know…Raphael!”

“Yes, boss?”

“Bring up the Goulding, please,” he ordered.

“Yes, sir.”

Della smirked. “We’ll be ahead of time if we leave now,” she reminded him.

“Absolutely,” he took his hat and applied it to his head. “What are we doing going to this thing anyway?”

Della inhaled sharply. “It’s a fundraiser, remember? It’s formal wear optional. Thank God.”

“There is no God.”

“You keep saying that, but I know there is one,” Della asserted.

“Prove it….”

“Well, I’m evidence. I could’ve died as a baby. I’m standing here aren’t I?”

“That’s because of innovations in healthcare, not some mystical force outside of reality.”

“Whatever it was, I believe it was my Lord and savior.”

“And I know it was the expertise of medical professionals.”

She crossed her arms. She dragged on the tiny machine and let the vapor go in the air.

“You’re right, maybe, I don’t know.”

“No, I’m right and you know it.”
