At the sight of the judge entering the courtroom followed by the jury, a sense of irritation spread through Atkinson’s body. As everyone sat down, the judge asked for the foreperson to deliver the verdict.

To Vichy, his eyes blazed with an intensity although remained still.

“We find the defendant guilty of weapons trafficking.”

Vichy looked back at his brother who had already gotten up to leave. Atkinson straightened his suit jacket and almost shed a tear. Then, he thought of all the trouble his brother had found himself in and maintained composure.

He hailed a ride share back to his apartment. Work beckoned him. Those executives he told to run his businesses in the interim, he told then to fulfill their normal functions. Atkinson returned to form. In every sense of the word, he felt free. With Vichy going to probably spend three to five years or more behind bars, he knew that he would have to be even more motivated than in his previous dealings.

The news hit the socials as mousepad manipulators and keyboard conquistadors each had something to say about the case. Every ounce of strength that remained in his body, he used. Whether it was swatting down emails that asked for his advice on dating, to the still different comfort that he felt, a strange sensation that permitted him to know his brother’s plight and still continue.

Nobody knew why he recused himself, just that he had left the jury and could do nothing to save his younger brother. Atkinson decided he would not visit Vichy in prison nor put money on his books. He had been doing bids here and there but this remained the most significant verdict Vichy ever experienced.

With this new world, Atkinson held onto the weight of the entire moment.
