Balloons lifted towards the sky as Lisa snapped up another investment. This seemed more pertinent. The private school in her hometown of Newark, Delaware marked one of the first secular private schools in the state.
“It is a pleasure to open this house of learning in accordance with the Constitution.” Applause followed. The way she saw it, the school represented more than just an educational investment. It stood for providing the best system of understanding in the state with more to follow. As Lisa shook hands and smiled, a man walked up to her, but he didn’t extend his hand.
“This is a disgrace. If you’re going to have a private school, it ought to be parochial. This secularism is what is destroying this country,” Varson Chandling Guards stepped forward to remove the man. Lisa halted their entry.
“Sir, I’m sure I can explain—”
“Explain what? You’ve been displaying this building in newspapers and magazines online. Your goal is to create a Godless society.” Lisa gathered herself. “No, my goal is to establish a school that can satisfy the requirements for growing minds and foster an environment where they can focus on facts not faith,” she countered.
“God is all. He represents youthful faces and what they mean. Remember that He is the one who set this building in motion….” Chandling retorted.
“Yes…a private school dedicated to observation and nature as opposed to mysticism and revelation. I can see where God played a role in all of this,” Lisa’s words dripped with sardonic intent.
Chandling smiled. “It’s okay. ‘Pride goeth before a—”
“Let me finish that…‘A great awakening.’ Pride doesn’t make you fall, hubris does. Pride is a virtue that permits you to esteem oneself. And even if you fall, it is pride that allows you to arise.”
Chandling scoffed.

Sal and Hajime quickly re-established their routines, with a few noticeable differences. Hajime was able to maintain his morning meditation and the evening stint in the crow's nest, but his instruction in the ways of the sea was stepped up a bit. This meant that he had to deal with a certain of hazing, but he was learning a new profession. By the time he hit Bubastos, he knew as much as a journeyman sailor, and was able to sail a small boat by himself, or be part of a crew without embarrassing himself.
