Smells of thousand dollar cologne and fresh pressed slacks hung in the air. Even more expensive silk shirts from lines. Lisa Conway walked through the “Cocaine Chic” section of the hip hop museum in Wilmington, Delaware.

“You’re our first guest,” site director Domino States announced to her. No one else had appeared on the premises. She admired this exhibit particularly because it showed how most of the leading drug dealers turned rappers had never been to jail or prison for trafficking substances like crack cocaine.

This stood as one of her early investments. She owned one hundred percent of the property. The space covered thirty four hundred square feet and featured amenities like two restaurants and a gift shop.

“I love it,” Lisa admitted to States. “Something’s a little off, though,” she observed.

“Oh? And what’s that?” he asked.

“We should have a section regarding all of the incarcerated men and women who moved substances from state to state. There should be a reminder for why these rappers actually talked about the trade. Of course, they wish to delineate their riches, but oftentimes, they feel perplexed.”

“Okay. We can do something about that. It’s still six months before the grand opening.”

“Good. There must be a code to follow if we show only the light side of the genre, and not its knotty past.”

Domingo wanted to salute Lisa. He wanted to bow down at her feet and kiss her shoes.

They walked to the next exhibit instead.

This showed the gaudy splashy side of the genre. Shiny suits and high-end cars all pointed a way for Lisa to interrupt their gait.

She looked around at the sheen and opulence. A smile curled around her mouth.

“This will be the most visited exhibit on the premises,” she proclaimed with vigor.
