Businesswoman Chapter 153
What is Happening?

Loreen stood up cheering, shouting, and applauding her nine-year-old daughter Antonia. She had even hired a crew to distribute digital video of the recital for free to every parent in attendance. How did she get here?
Earlier that day
Lisa came to the Breen compound. She had selected all of the proper ways of expressing herself. Calmness, intensity, rhythm and flow balanced in her mind. She prepared a presentation and wanted to present it to her mentor and partner.
At the door, Loreen allowed Lisa entry. “You’re a hundred million dollars richer,” Loreen announced with a straight face curling into a smile.
“I’m what? Wait, what is happening?”
“I’m going to my daughter’s ballet recital tonight. I know the talk coincides, so I had to make a choice. Really, we should be splitting two hundred and fifty million dollars. They cut that down to fifty million a piece. Now, you’re at least getting nine figures and I’ll be giving my little one a standing ovation tonight.”
“Isn’t that a sacrifice?” Lisa asked under her breath, she hardly looked at Loreen.
“How? We’re both benefitting. You’re getting the money, and I don’t have to be selfless and unselfish about raising my child. I get to enjoy my money. Another chance will come some day. Either that or we’ll make our own talk syndicate.”
“But we rehearsed the speeches…they are supposed to coincide with one another…how will this fit?”
“I trust you. You’ve got bravura. When you get out onto that stage, don’t even consider for a moment that I should be up there with you.” Loreen leaned a bit closer to Lisa. “What we’re going to have is a bright young woman ready for anything and everything.”
“I thank you for this opportunity. I won’t––”
“Never mind me. Do your thing.”

This story shows the tough choices we face. Loreen choosing her daughter's recital over work is relatable. It makes you think about priorities. Have you ever had to pick between work and family? How did you decide? And how do you think Lisa handled the last-minute change?
Love this humane side of Loreen with her daughter!
