A fountain burbled near where Loreen checked into the posh Mercier Hotel. She would be staying for three days straight and didn’t want to commute from her house. With three talks planned, she looked at her phone and saw text messages from Lisa and Atkinson. For their roles in boosting her career, she sent bonuses to them. Loreen would see at least fifty million dollars by the end of the talks. All she wanted to do was enjoy the time with both of them and keep her mind off of the affront posed by the Collectivists. Common Man walked towards her.

“Loreen! It’s so good to know you’re part of the speaking series. Nevermind me, or the proletariat. There're just plutocrats trying to plunder from us all. And what are you making? We all want money. Let’s try to spread the wealth around a little.”

“Mr. Fails, your name actually fits you. I mean it’s a last name for anyone but it truly matches your character. If you’ve come here to disrupt my spirit, look elsewhere.”

“No, you’ve got me all wrong, Mrs. Breen. I’m congratulating you. Your system is so far removed from reality that I’m applauding your very nature.”

“And your system is so vicious that millions of people died in its name both mentally and physically.”

Common Man took a moment for all of this to register. “You can’t make an omelet––”

“Don’t even finish it. Your whole life is a corruption. Begone from me, now. Go away.”

Common Man smirked. It was a smirk of smugness and a facade of insecurity wrapped in self-satisfaction. He turned to go and met up with Socialista and Fascbinder. The Collectivists had been booked at the same hotel for a separate event but in the same time frame. Loreen proceeded.
