Cameras and microphones pervaded the space. Two broadcasters and an engineer all sat in comfy, high-end office chairs. Loreen sat just as relaxed. She sat straight up and looked composed. It was like she was schooled at the art of proper posture. The co-host, Dylan Roberts, launched another question.
“So going back to the topic of charity…you have no charities. Entrepreneur Paul and Businessgirl have 501 (c) (3) tax deductible charitable organizations. Why doesn’t Businesswoman have at least one?”
“I regard private charity as one of the most beneficial and effective ways to pay for everything from gifted students to accidents. I personally don’t have any because I think that people, not Paul or Lisa, are disingenuous with their money. They wish to pay attention to themselves.”
Norrissa asked, “But why are there so many groups that are genuine and actually want to help like your partners?”
“That’s fine for them but not me. I know they are passionate about their organizations. That’s splendid. But I will not be the one who touts a group just to say I’m giving to charity. Again, it’s wonderful if done right,” she explained.
Roberts switched gears. “So what you're saying is that there is this great rift between the people who wish to seek and earn money and those who just want to sit idly by and collect deposits?” Loreen straightened even more.
“I think that the world wants to go back to Eden, that fantastical place. They wish wine would shower down on them and trees would turn into chocolate. They want to receive the benefits without working for their reward.”
Norissa was a few inches taller than Loreen. She extended a hand and shook the diminutive dynamo’s own.
“I’ve been trying to say that for years!”
“So, why didn’t you speak?”

Chanda Go pored over the data. Pie charts, bar graphs, and seemingly endless sets of numbers flew past her. “At least I don’t have to be forced to pay taxes,” she muttered under her breath. The skate shop Got to Go had seen a dip in sales in the past few months. She wondered why this fact remained. There appeared to be discrepancy among the 18–34 year-old set. In the previous year’s quarter, their numbers continued to grow. Now, this dwindling effect befuddled her. In her office, she spun around on her chair and saw more computer screens with a sharp decline in engagement among all other demographics, including the coveted aforementioned crowd who just became adults and those under 35.

Sal and Hajime quickly re-established their routines, with a few noticeable differences. Hajime was able to maintain his morning meditation and the evening stint in the crow's nest, but his instruction in the ways of the sea was stepped up a bit. This meant that he had to deal with a certain of hazing, but he was learning a new profession. By the time he hit Bubastos, he knew as much as a journeyman sailor, and was able to sail a small boat by himself, or be part of a crew without embarrassing himself.
