Businesswoman: Chapter 11
Free Enterprise
Aromas of sanitizer and rosewater permeated the office. It wasn’t shabby at all. The director of the DelaWhole Medical Center featured cushy chairs and an array of different office doodads and objects related to health. Loreen felt compelled to start asking Ferdinand Aube questions.
“Do you have a government overbearing on you?”
“Well, I’d say that we need the government, no?” Aube asked.
“No. You don’t. Only to protect the individual rights of your patients, nothing more.”
“If we don’t have government funding, where are we going to get it?” He wondered with clear eyes and a patient tone.
“The private sector ought to be the only source of supplies, personnel, and equipment. There ought to be no exceptions when it comes to health care. It should all be privatized.”
“But that’s radical.”
“Yes,” Loreen beamed.
“So, if I just subtract all of the money spent on our health care from the government and implement new standards of private care, we can have––”
“––Happier nurses and doctors, healthier patients, and an overall appeal to the spirit of promoting life.”
Aube thought. He looked pensive and unsure but like he slowly grasped everything that Loreen had just said.
“No government inspections would be nice….”
“And no nonsense with the State coming in and inspecting everything. A private option could do a much better job than some bureaucrat.”
“I see your point. How long will this take to implement?”
“It could take a few months up to a year. You won’t get the big checks from Uncle Sam anymore, but you can rest assured that there will be more dollars to come in larger amounts with the advantage of the free enterprise system.”
“You just sweep in and talk about turning things around….” Aube acknowledged.
“It’s what I do,” Loreen said, smiling.
