The Individualists

Spring rain brought a dampness to the city of Wilmington. Some puddles dotted the rain slick streets. The Collectivists along with Statist worked their way around the bustling metropolis.

“I think we have to show full force,” Fascinder reminded. “That Paul fellow is back on his own turf and ready to do damage or even destroy all we’ve worked on so far.”

“Relax,” commanded Common Man. “He’s not super in any way just like the rest of them. We have more sway. We’re able to fix minds on being in a group and living and dying for the other, especially if they don’t mean anything to you,” a grin curled around his mouth in exquisite enthusiasm.

“With Businesswoman and Businessgirl joining forces with Entrepreneur Paul, we can still take them on and get to this gala,” Socialista remarked.

“Of course,” Statist stated. His voice remained low and almost hollow and he took a breath between words.

“Statist is right—”

“When is he not?” Fascinder asked.

The Collectivists looked at each other, shrugged as if letting go of a yoke around their shoulders, but couldn’t quite release it.

“We go in there and just present ourselves. Everyone in that room is going to be a blood-sucking capitalist. That’s true. What we must do is obstruct their little shindig and make them feel guilty about all they’ve attained.”

The words seemed like a toxic gas leak, speeding out into the atmosphere. They were dressed in overalls and distressed jeans and sneakers, completely violating the dress code of tuxedos and evening gowns.

They ambled to a side door and slipped into the function.

The music stopped as the guests looked on in horror. Loreen, Lisa, and Paul all wore thousands of dollars worth of attire.

“You’re not welcome. Begone with you!” Loreen commanded.
