What Vestin Go enjoyed about the crypto market so much remained that it blared now. No longer did it sleek along in silence. There seemed to be a connection in his brain to the work he performed. Like a wifi link to his mind, he could delve into the annals of the blockchain. His brief hiatus from the market provided him with a sense that he could come roaring back. And he did. He knew about the safety of the crypto world. He knew that less than one percent consisted of transfers that could be deemed as nefarious. On the other hand, paper money still carried a shameful amount of risk when it came to underworldly transactions.

The data came streaming in like digital pieces to show movies and tv shows. In this space, Go could control what needed to be done. As he tapped on his computer, he looked forward to earning even more billions. He had been inching like a caterpillar towards a goal of about twenty-five million dollars a day now. His eyes pored over the strings of numbers and he knew exactly when to trade and how best to guarantee himself the amount of money that he sought. Just then, the fire alarm sounded. Chanda carried out errands. 

“Simon, turn off alarm.” It continued to ring. Go got up and checked the main computer systems. When he arrived at the station to control the house, he found no danger. No fire, argon, or carbon monoxide. A code for the alarm to stop blaring allowed him to go back to his work. The screen appeared blank. He looked around and around to see what the problem had to be. He tried control, command, delete. Every wire had been checked and he made sure the power source had properly remained in his computer. When he found time, he sent off some texts to a few of his fellow crypto buddies. Everything existed in number form so only they could decipher what could be communicated. With his gaze planted firmly on the blank screen, he began to fume a bit. There seemed to be a fire in his gut that launched him into his present state. A quick swivel in his chair allowed him to further investigate what happened with his connection. Trillions of dollars floated on the market. By taking the amount of time, it was like he was hemorrhaging blood.  

When he couldn’t find the reason for the shutdown of the computer system, He thought of driving up to the station where a few of his buddies hung out and coded different websites. The place would be secure, but he thought otherwise. Go wanted to fix the issue on his own. It wasn't stubbornness or bullheadedness, it was his own soul yearning to bring about a sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic state. Perspiration formed at his temples. He recalled the famous quote about invention and it seemed to be proven here. What he wanted to do made him even more aware of his abilities to solve these problems. As he looked at the array of wires which looked like bundles of neurons in the brain, he found himself troubleshooting his way through all of this. It appeared like he would not be able to conquer this electronic demon. 

His might proved to be too tenacious. Go didn’t quit. He may have taken a break, but he never gave up on his goals. He got a few responses from the team that he had sent the messages to earlier. All was for naught. They couldn’t help him. They just scrawled numbers to call. Go didn’t want to call numbers. He didn’t even want to contact them. He knew in his mind that he could be rewarded with his own ingenuity. To take himself on this ride to redemption, he knew that he had to keep up his timing. By figuring that the event happened about a half hour ago, he thought he lost maybe a few hundred thousand dollars. No problem. He’d make the rest back in millions. His specific way of looking at the colored wires and the amount of time it took to see if he could do for himself made him look like a master over all the machinery. The spirit of determination fueled Go’s every action and permitted him to see the various possibilities for the launch of his own unit of exchange. He toyed with the idea then filled out the necessary documentation to put his idea into effect. 

He worked on it and kept it quiet. He still waited for the day when the official word would be passed down to him. As he worked through all of the cables of colors of all sorts, he tested and failed each time. Failure didn’t hinder him. His hunger for getting back in the game only spurred him to do more, to flourish, to thrive. Underneath the computer system, he looked at his watch. A chronograph, simple yet refined could not fit on a better wrist. He relished its synchronicity with the atomic clock. The watch came down to the nanosecond. It gleamed and showed off no diamonds or precious metals, just glass and plastic mainly, and a tiny computer that ticked away the hours of the day. It felt like he had been searching for this problem for hours. Only forty-five minutes had passed. 

A quick sniff of the room smelled like ozone. The smell began to pervade through the room. It provided Go with the opportunity to nose his way through space.  “Maybe that’s what the alarm detected and brought to my attention?” he thought. The alarm rang once more. The scent in the home had never been fresher. He looked around and found what seemed to be the problem. Chanda had installed air fresheners which gave off harmful ozone emissions. Go wondered if the alarm shut down his computer because the network had all been integrated. An investigation into this made Go put on his detective hat. He didn’t sweat over the money. He looked at it as a pause. He’d resume in just enough time. What he wanted remained in solving this mystery. The maintenance men installed the electronic air fresheners. By grabbing a ladder, he took each step with care. At the end of his approach, he disconnected the fresheners and carried them down as if they were  Faberge eggs. 

He looked at their components. Like a surgeon, he looked at the inner workings of each and dismantled their ability to give off any noxious fumes.

It felt like he had just beat the boss of a first person shooter game. He still had to contend with why his computer had been malfunctioning. He found a suitcase and placed the items in it. Upon his arrival in his computer room, he noticed beams of light shining down on him. Had he turned on those lights? He remembered then that he turned them off when the alarm sounded the first time. So, he fought back the urge to just go to his refrigerator and drink some saké. Still, he pushed on with his agenda to knock out the problem on his own. There didn’t seem to be a disconnect with others. It just felt right that this problem be solved by the one whose technology had been affected and had known how to find a solution. 

In the moments that led to his discovery, he felt pangs of the people that said he’d never be able to master the blockchain. They said he’d never make more than a couple dollars with cryptocurrency. The satisfaction in telling people he had earned billions came about by arrogance and qualified boasting. Earnings meant just that. They reflected what had been earned. Go put in the sweat equity to achieve his dreams. It took nearly a decade to get  a hold on the market, but he accomplished this feat anyway. Now, as he looked around for the connection to his computer, he never hesitated to bring himself into the present moment. 

Every movement he produced made him think he strode closer to his goal. By taking the time to weigh options like should I disconnect the alarm system and the computers? What problems could that present? This was a safety feature that ensured that Go and Chanda wouldn’t be exposed to harmful and toxic elements. With the computers in the home shut down, he found that he had to take certain measures and reboot all of the different systems to keep them on track. That’s what he wanted to do. He had lived his whole life fixing things; everything from broken, leaky faucets to relationships with his mother. She still didn’t enjoy the fact he had become an atheist. She still didn’t even understand how he made so much money. Yes, they loved him, but it was a cold, staid kind of love that he felt for his mother. It didn’t bother him. He knew he was his own person and that he had displayed a sense of being that one finds in tranquility with oneself.  All of his efforts in looking at the dozens, maybe scores of wires and then checking to see a blank screen almost mocked him.

Derision rose up in his mind, mainly at himself. He had  been sober for the past seven months. There existed no cravings or anything of the sort. What had saved him was himself. Selfishness lay at the epicenter of his wanting to get clean. It was his own will to keep off of the drugs and focus again on what brought him true joy: investing. When it came down to the facts of his existence, he wanted with complete moral ambition to be the one to put a crown on his own achievements. It would be okay for others to compliment him, but he would first have to congratulate himself. Chanda remained the one who worshipped him. Her guidance, her truth propelled him to greater heights of understanding. While he worked on the screen, he thought of those things. The fact she stayed with him and never strayed; the fact she always championed his causes;  all of these instances provided a way for her to express her joy and glory for Go’s greatness. 

At this time, he had begun to work again on the screen. Finally, the screen glowed like the moon at night. A box appeared at the center of it. Go breathed. He put in his passcode and waited for the computer to start up again. It did. He looked at his total time lost and how much that translated into currency. With every bit of his fiber, he didn’t lash out or scream. It looked as if he lost twenty million dollars on the day. He didn’t curse or swear or kick things around. He just breathed again. He took his loss and licked his wounds. By figuring that he could trade even more on the blockchain, he kept in mind his strategy for winning. He never wrote it down anywhere. Especially not in any computer system. It remained in his head. He just checked off all of the boxes that would qualify him for making decisions. 

As he toed back into the space, he noticed some messages of people who queried about his absence. A smile curled around his face. He replied all with  a simple “Go’s Back!” Everyone rejoiced electronically. The party remained short-lived. Go got back in the action and continued to post various trades in order to surge forward beyond even those who wished him well. The nature of the game kept calling him to do better. The others knew this, too. After the ordeal that just happened, it felt like the competitive spirit had been renewed once more. All of the cheering for Go turned into aggressive basketball play on the electronic hardware. Go relished every moment of it nevertheless. He smiled at last.
