The Bennington Triangle, located in southwestern Vermont, has gained notoriety due to a series of mysterious disappearances that occurred between 1945 and 1950. These disappearances have puzzled investigators and sparked various theories over the years.

Paula Jean Welden (1946): Paula was a college sophomore who went for a hike on the Long Trail on December 1, 1946. She met some hikers who gave her directions, but she never returned. Despite extensive searches, no trace of her was found.

Middie Rivers (1945): Middie Rivers, a seasoned woodsman, vanished while guiding a hunting group in the area. Despite his experience and familiarity with the trails, he disappeared without a trace.

James E. Tedford (1949): James Tedford, a 68-year-old veteran, was traveling on a bus from St. Albans to Bennington. Witnesses saw him on the bus during a stop, but he disappeared before reaching his destination. His belongings were still on the bus.

Paul Jepson (1950): Paul Jepson, an 8-year-old boy, disappeared while his mother was feeding pigs on their family farm. Despite search efforts and tracking dogs, he was never found. He was wearing a bright red jacket, which should have made him easily visible.

Frieda Langer (1950): Frieda Langer, a 53-year-old woman, went hiking with her cousin in Green Mountain National Forest. She fell into a stream and decided to return to camp for dry clothes, but she never arrived. Her body was found 3.5 miles from the campsite the following spring, under mysterious circumstances.

The area became known as the Bennington Triangle due to these unexplained disappearances, which occurred within a 36-square-mile area of dense forests and challenging terrain. Various theories have been proposed, including foul play, environmental hazards (like sudden weather changes or the presence of abandoned mine shafts), or even supernatural explanations akin to the Bermuda Triangle.

Despite extensive searches and investigations at the time and in subsequent years, none of these cases have been conclusively solved. The disappearances remain a haunting mystery, contributing to the area's eerie reputation and cautioning visitors and locals alike about the potential dangers of its remote wilderness.
