Kezia sat there emotionless for a while until her father came into the kitchen to prepare dinner and woke her up.
You went to Lucy's house, didn't you? Why are you back so soon?" he asked, looking at Kezia with a surprised expression.
I didn’t go," Kezia replied, still staring blankly out of the window, her voice cold.
She got up and went to her room. Her father didn’t say another word; he often did this when Kezia behaved this way. He made dinner. Today, he had made apple pie and creamy mushroom soup, her favorite. And that was the only way he knew to make Kezia happy.
He went to her room, where Kezia was busy doing her homework. "Dinner’s ready, come help me finish it off," he said with a smile.
Kezia didn’t respond; she was still absorbed in her homework.
Don’t you feel hungry? Look, your favorite dishes are ready," he said again, smiling lovingly. But still, there was no response from Kezia.
Suddenly, she got up, put on her shoes, and hurriedly walked out of the room. "Where are you going, dear?" her father asked her.
I’m going to Lucy’s house. I need to see her. She didn’t come today, I have to go check on her," Kezia said, not looking at her father.
It’s already late. How about you go in the morning instead? I think that would be better," he suggested.
No! I’m going now," Kezia said, firmly expressing her decision.
Alright then, I’ll come with you," her father said, following her.
Lucy’s house was just under half a kilometer away from theirs. Kezia’s insistence made her father give in, as he had no better option.
After a while, when they reached Lucy’s house, they saw a crowd gathered outside. It seemed like all their neighbors had gathered there. People were whispering to each other.
Seeing this, Kezia felt uneasy. She looked at her father, her eyes filled with an unusual fear. Something inside her felt like it was breaking.

Way to leave the story, on a cliff hanger. I see the subtle way Kezia father trying in his own way to connect with his daughter.
Duck! Ain't Lucy dead, now? Hell no... I just want the next part. I'm hoping not see her funeral! 😶
Kezia is a stubborn girl, but she also cares about Lucy. Oh! What happened at Lucy's house? 😳
Oh no, did Lucy die??? I gotta knowwww!
Good start Sk. It doesn't sound like it is going to be good news. Looking forward to the next part. 😊
Oh, no!! What's happened!
This was such an intense and emotional chapter! The way Kezia’s unease built up was really well done, especially with the mysterious atmosphere at Lucy’s house. The ending left me with so many questions—I can’t wait to see what happens next! 💙✨
