Benjamin was just about to leave the house when he suddenly remembered the pouch filled with diamonds. He quickly opened the chest and took out the pouch. He gazed at it for a few moments, then took a deep breath and stuffed it into the pocket of his coat.
Just then, his eyes fell on an old leather letter lying on the chest. He carefully picked it up, wiped off the dust, and began to read it.

I am responsible for everything I have done
Every sin, every virtue, every lie, every deception, and every broken trust.
Every drop of tear that has fallen from my eyes.
For every line of trust that I erased
For every deception I inflicted upon myself
For every time I cried, for every time I laughed
For all my smiles, I alone am responsible.
With cruelty, I have burned a soul
For every flower that withered because of me
For the pain that has gathered in my eyes
Which I always fail to let out
I alone am responsible.
For every dive I took into the deep ocean of sorrow
For the envy that grew in my heart and shrank my soul
For every time I begged to torment my own spirit
I alone am responsible.
When I lost love, empathy, and kindness
The thread that once bound my soul, I severe it
To wander this world with a hollow heart
I alone am responsible.
When I realized that everything I once claimed as mine
Had distanced itself from me into infinity
Everything my eyes can see now is nothing but toys to amuse a child
When my soul grasped this truth, for that too, I alone am responsible.
When I crossed the threshold of childhood, those beautiful memories were lost.
Then I realized that life is a lifelong prison.
Where every day starts with a crime and the night with repentance
For this I alone am responsible.
For every accusation I have made against this beautiful world
By calling it greedy, selfish, cruel, and deceptive
I alone am responsible
Why would this world torment an innocent soul?
For being trapped in the endless loop of existence
Every breath shortens my life and weighs down my soul.
For a life that fades away without knowledge or purpose
I alone am responsible.
Every word that I have written
The rhyme of my poetry is now lost
Even my desire to write in this desolation has faded away
I alone am responsible.
From birth, existence became an obligation
Life is unfair, and there is no such thing as destiny
For every small achievement and failure,
The last breath that I am going to take
I alone am responsible.

As soon as he finished reading, Benjamin took a long, deep breath. He thought to himself—the man could not have died carrying the same burden he had borne all his life. Surely, his soul must have been freed from his body, consumed by great repentance.
The letter was written in blood. Perhaps, this time, the man had used his own blood. Every moment he had spent writing it in deep remorse had probably brought him closer to his death.
Benjamin stuffed the letter into his coat pocket as well. He then picked up an old gun lying nearby—now nothing more than a piece of wood, useful only for defending himself against wild, violent animals. He set off toward the north, as marked on the map. If he followed the map correctly, he would soon reach the seashore.

What’s with the new profile mini poem? 🤔😄
Very nicely done, Sk. I can't wait for the next part. The letter is so well composed and gives great insight into the thinking of a very troubled and remorseful individual. This is all summed up in these two lines for me: "Then I realized that life is a lifelong prison. Where every day starts with a crime and the night with repentance."
I hope he reaches the seashore soon. Waiting for the next part!
so good <3
There is quite a lot of emotion in this story and the poem within and great job in writing it and waiting for more to see what happens at the shore.
Oh my God, I need time to absorb!
