The Value of Patience

Difficult paths will not stop you, only your faith in yourself can stop you

The way

Shivraj was born in a small village in Dhading. He was the youngest of five brothers. His father was a laborer, and his mother worked at home sewing clothes to support their family of six. Shivraj’s childhood was not easy. Sometimes, he did not have enough food to eat. Sometimes, he missed school because his family couldn’t pay the fees. While his friends played, Shivraj worked in the fields, carrying grass and firewood.

One day, the teacher asked him, “Why do you always come to school without a book?” Shivraj looked down and quietly said, “Sir, before I think about books, I have to make sure there is food on the table at home.” The class laughed. The teacher stayed silent. Shivraj felt hurt but did not get angry. From that day, he made a promise to himself “I can endure hardships, but I will never give up.”

After finishing school, Shivraj went to Kathmandu. He washed dishes at a hotel and studied at night. Sometimes, he would fall asleep on his books because he was so tired. Sometimes, he cried because he was hungry.

But over time, he got used to the hard work.

Life was not easy, but patience became his greatest strength.

After many years of hard work, he won a scholarship to study medicine in India.

Studying was difficult. The language was different, and the culture was new. At first, he faced insults, disrespect, and lack of support. But he smiled and said,“I am used to a tough path. Even thorns can turn into flowers for me.”

Finally, Shivraj became a doctor. He could have worked abroad, but he chose to return to his village.Where once the teacher had mocked him for coming without books, he started a scholarship fund “Shivraj Patience Scholarship.”

That day felt the same as before, but tears came to Shivraj’s eyes.

He said,“If my childhood had been easy, I wouldn’t have become such a strong person today.”

Struggles may seem like they will break a person, but they actually build patience, discipline, and inner strength. Some people get easy success and become proud. But those who climb the steep path with tears on every page truly understand the value of life.
