The Comfort of Comparison
Our lives are as simple as we want them to be. We are all living crafted stories of perceptive realities that our minds conform into.
The notions of success and victories are often measured by the standards laid down by society. The hustle culture often troves us within the cycle of being productive 24/7, working tirelessly towards our goals. But do we often sit and wonder- is it really what we want to attain or is it a conditioned reality of exquisite glory that we need to achieve to be accepted and validated by the people that surround us?
If we do not question ourselves or our beliefs about our idea of success, we often fall into the vicious cycle of comparison. A line from the book Get epic shit done by Ankur Warikoo says we all come across very different opportunities. This means by default we all end up in different places because we started differently. It is a very powerful line- That states the beautiful contrast that dwells in the stories of people.
We all are plots of various chapters of the novel of this beautiful journey of life. Sometimes when the troubled waters of life plonk us into an unknown land, it becomes easy for us to compare our journey to those who stand on shiny sands.
The comfort of comparison is elusive and often very tempting. It is easy to complain and compare our lives to others rather than embrace our journey and be grateful for how far we have come.
In the quest for your stride,
Learn to let your faith sit by your side.
For look not afar embrace the chapter of life you lie in,
All you are seeking after lies within.
