Why I chose philosopy as a course

By Big subby Published 2 years ago 3 min read

Philosophy, often considered the mother of all sciences, has always fascinated me. The study of philosophy delves into the fundamental questions of existence, knowledge, ethics, and reality. It is a subject that challenges one's beliefs, encourages critical thinking, and provides a deeper understanding of the world around us. When I was deciding on a course to pursue in college, philosophy stood out as the perfect fit for my curious and analytical mind.

One of the primary reasons I chose philosophy as a course is the opportunity it provides to explore the thoughts and ideas of great philosophers throughout history. From Socrates and Plato to Descartes and Kant, philosophers have shaped the way we think about the world. Their profound insights and intellectual contributions have paved the way for scientific advancements, political ideologies, and ethical frameworks.

Studying philosophy allows me to engage with the works of these influential thinkers. I am able to immerse myself in the writings of Aristotle, Nietzsche, and other philosophers who have grappled with complex questions about human nature, morality, and the meaning of life. The wisdom and perspectives offered by these philosophers offer invaluable insights that can be applied to various aspects of life.

Books play a pivotal role in the study of philosophy. They serve as a gateway to the minds of philosophers, allowing us to explore their ideas, arguments, and theories. Whether it is Plato's "The Republic," which delves into the concept of justice, or Friedrich Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra," which explores the idea of the Übermensch, books are the vessels through which philosophers communicate their profound thoughts.

Through studying philosophy, I have come to appreciate the power of books as tools for intellectual growth and personal development. They provide a platform for intellectual discourse, challenge preconceived notions, and broaden our perspectives. The study of philosophy encourages us to critically engage with these texts, analyze their arguments, and form our own opinions.

Moreover, philosophy as a course cultivates essential skills that are applicable in various fields. The discipline hones critical thinking, logical reasoning, and analytical skills, which are highly sought after in today's rapidly evolving job market. Philosophy equips students with the ability to think critically, question assumptions, and construct coherent arguments. These skills are not only valuable in academic pursuits but also in everyday life, as they enable us to navigate complex issues, make informed decisions, and engage in meaningful discussions.

Choosing philosophy as a course is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is a journey of self-discovery and intellectual growth. It challenges us to confront our deepest beliefs, question the status quo, and seek truth and meaning in a complex world. Philosophy encourages us to think beyond the surface level, to explore the intricacies of human existence, and to grapple with the mysteries of the universe.

Sometimes being a philosophy student can be really hard and frustrating but trust me you will enjoy it ,When u go deeper into the course there are some questions u will be asking your self.

A question like is there God?, My I am bearing this name ,in fact a lot of questions will come to mind but when you find the course comfortable your questions will be solved and answered.

In conclusion, I chose philosophy as a course because it offers a unique opportunity to engage with the thoughts of great philosophers, explore profound ideas through books, and cultivate essential skills for personal and intellectual growth. Philosophy is not just a subject; it is a way of life that encourages us to question, reflect, and seek truth. By studying philosophy, we embark on a journey of self-discovery and gain a deeper understanding of the world and our place in it.
